Prosecutor Seeks Punishment for Reggina

ROME (AP) -- An Italian soccer federation prosecutor asked a sports tribunal Sunday to relegate Reggina to Serie B and dock the team 15 points in the country's match-fixing scandal.

Reggina, which finished 15th in Serie A last season, was indicted on match-fixing charges last week. The sports proceedings opened Sunday.

It was not clear when the ruling would be issued.

The corruption scandal already has resulted in penalties or relegation for four of Italy's top soccer clubs.

Juventus was stripped of its last two Serie A titles and relegated to Serie B with a 17-point penalty for next season. Fiorentina and Lazio start next season banned from European competition and minus 19 and 11 points, respectively. AC Milan was allowed to play in the Champions League but was docked eight points.

The four teams have appealed their sanctions.

Italy's soccer season has been delayed by two weeks due to fallout from the scandal. Serie A and B are scheduled to start Sept. 9-10.

Prosecutors in Naples, Rome, Parma and Turin also are conducting separate criminal probes into sports fraud, illegal betting and false bookkeeping -- but any indictments could take months.

moral of the story is don't fix games... otherwise your entire team could get kicked down to the baseball equivalent of a AAA league
