So i have this monster http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=KV40XBR800®ion_id=1

Its a bad ass tv and of course i want to hook my comp up to it.

Problem is, according to the manual:
Quote :
"The DVI-HDTV input terminal is compliant with the EIA-861 standard and is
not intended for use with personal computers."

Of course i tried it anyway. DVI cable connected, computer powered on, no picture. And the tv doesn't show up in the display tools for my card.

Now a few minutes googling says this EIA-861 deal is some kind of predecesor to HDCP. Something my 9800pro doesn't seem too keen on.

So my question(s) to you folks is this: When it comes to high def internet porn and games am i SOL? Is this eia-861 standard completely bonkers? Or is it compatible with HDCP? And if so would grabbing and HDCP capable video card fix my problem?

thx

edit: note that this all might just be moot b/c more googling revealed this magic device: http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=2537967

I thought there weren't any HDCP compliant videocards out yet?

Which is why Sony is releasing a BluRay DVD burner.... that doesnt play BACK Bluray DVDs.

and yeah, that device will work, but it wont look as nice as a straight up DVI cable.

1's and 0's look a lot better on low cost cables than an analog feed
