i think its got to be Jimi Hendrix- Star Spangled Banner @ Woodstock 69
it was perhaps the most meaningful performance as well...
-Hendrix was slated to play the last night (Sunday) but ended up playing Monday morning around 6:30am, with the sun rising over a vast teenage wasteland -Hendrix was black (dont forget this was still the 60s) -Hendrix busted into Purple Haze -There was probably only 30% of the people left at the festival -if uve ever seen the video, the scene looks like a peaceful war scene, really creepy considering the whole festival was opposing the Vietnam War
theres alot more parallelism and symbolism , but i think its the greatest song ever played live on American soil.
thoughts anyone? 8/15/2006 11:28:15 PM |

It's an okay question, or at least it has the potential to be. The problem is that you seem less interested in what we think and more interested in giving your own opinion. It's a little insulting when you're that transparent. Don't patronize us!!1 8/15/2006 11:37:46 PM |

No, see...you just wanted to talk about that Hendrix performance. And rather than simply post that thread and be honest with us and yourself (albeit homogay), which at least would earned you only ridicule and not ire as well, you decided to cloak your intention in the guise of pretending to care what we think. No, sir; you were done with this thread when you made the first post, and you probably wouldn't have come back to read it except to scan for posts from people agreeing with you.

lol.
i actually just wanted to know if any others had other performances in mind, like The Beatles @ Shea Stadium or something like that...
(i guess the question goes hand in hand with being historically significant as well)

that's the sloppiest version of him doing the star spangled banner ever...which isn't saying much b/c henddrix IS sloppy, but there's better versions than that one...that one's just the most memorable.
and by most memorable--most played out version that sticks in people's minds that weren't even alive when it was originally performed 8/16/2006 8:50:50 AM |
