Favre could announce his retirement within the next hour. Just heard this on The herd.

what an asshole for waiting this long...

three weeks before the regular season starts, and after saying he looks forward to playing with the most talented GB team he has ever been a part of.

Favre fucked GB over.

maybe after the first game he realized that he's not really gonna be able to help this team like he thought he would be able to and the best thing for the packers is to let rodgers take over and get experience for the future.

OMGWTFBBQz!

Man I'm glad I haven't had my drafts yet. Not that I was gonna pick Favre anyways.

yeah i think rodgers would be every bit as effective as favre at this point, if not moreso.

favre is one of the best ever, but he's just past his prime now.

Even if he thinks he can't compete, why not wait until week two or three and make sure he's not just getting down on himself prematurely? That's what Brett Hull did.

note from my fantasy football page on cbs sportsline:
Quote :
"Contrary to Internet reports, Packers QB Brett Favre's 12:30 a.m. ET press conference is expected to be "nothing out of the ordinary," according to an NFL source and will not be the announcement of his retirement, according to well placed Packers sources. Favre simply moved up his press conference to earlier in the day and has held his preseason press conferences on Wednesdays all year long.

Analysis: Speculation was rampant that Favre could have announced plans for his retirement. It looks like this will be just another run-of-the-mill meeting with the media for the future Hall of Famer. Fantasywise, Favre has slipped into a No. 2 Fantasy QB role, worth owning as a backup but not as a starter, even in deeper leagues. He should be a middle- to late-round pick in drafts."

Favre used to be one of my favorite players but the shit with Javon Walker really changed my opinion of him. I know it would be wrong since he has been there so long, but Green Bay should say fuck off and just leave already and go with Rodgers.

He's not announcing his retirement today. It's a planned press conference that's in Green Bays media guide.

BearWhoDrive has this complex where every time Brett Favre is mentioned he has to talk about how close he is to breaking the all time INT record, while ignoring just how close he is to breaking the all time TD record.

well, if he's going to hold both records, it's safe to say he's the Lenny Wilkens of quarterbacking.

Favre.

Unless I'm mistaken, he explained those comments as something along the lines of "The QB coach knows better what to tell him than I do and my job is to focus on the games"

"calls out javon walker"

Who deserved to be called out. If every GM in the world gave a bigger contract to every player who had one good year then Isiah Thomas jokes wouldn't be nearly as funny.

Quote :

Now this is just dumb. There were about a million reasons the Packers were terrible last year and realistically, Favre was the least of their issues.

i never said walker deserved more money, but it's not a players job to get involed with other players contract issues....he just made things worse.

which is the perfect reason it would have been the best time for Rodgers to start. if they were going to suck anyway, at least they would have got him some playing experience.

when you're the leader of the team it's your job to have these types of discussions with your teammates

I'm going to need you to point out to me where, exactly, shit hit the fan.

I mean, I don't recall anyone other than non-Green Bay fans saying a word about it and most just used it as an excuse to bitch about Favre.

Made things worse by...?

Personally, with a questionable at best offensive line I'd prefer Favre at the end of his career rather than Rodgers at the beginning, because (god forbid) Favre getting hurt is a much lighter blow for the future of the team than Rodgers getting injured.

I think its bullshit that Favre (who is grossly overpaid at like $12 million probably) calls out Javon Walker who was a PRO BOWL WR(!!!) and was under contract for $600K.

Walker reports and tears his ACL and boom, his big contract day is gone.

Favre was being a bitch in that situation, you cant say he wasnt....

And Vick is clearly better than Favre at this point in their careers, no one would argue that.

Favre is still one of the top 20 QB's in the game though, no doubt. And since that division sucks dogsac, i can see him giving it one last go...

The NFC is stacked this year though and theres no way GB can make the playoffs realistically.

Car and Sea are loaded. Dallas is gonna be really good. Then Wash, Tampa, and NYG, Chi are all good teams. New Orleans, Atl, and Arizona are potentially dangerous.

I'd consider Philly and the Vikes "bad" teams but they could still go like 7-9...

Brady was telling the media about his conversations directly with branch

Favre went through the media to bash walker.

big diff.

[Edited on August 16, 2006 at 2:59 PM. Reason : not to mention that initially Brady was strongly on branch's side]

They don't generally play football in the offseason. You're not making much sense.

Quote :

You should watch Packers games from time to time. It would help your argument.

Quote :
"Walker reports and tears his ACL and boom, his big contract day is gone."

He's probably making more now than he ever would have hoped to get from the Packers.

Quote :

This I would disagree with, though a large part of that is the fact that Vick plays in an offense that isn't exactly tailored to him. He's probably be clearly better in my mind if Atlanta actually realized what they had rather than just sticking him in a WCO with a cannon of an arm.

even if he didn't mean it the way it was clearly stated....... he was one of the best qb's ever, do you really think the QB coach can teach Rodgers about the overall QB position that Favre could have?

look

with or without favre we're fucked

rodgers is gonna be shit, green is coming off an injury, we have no receivers, we have no offensive line, we have a marginally acceptable secondary and d-line

a.j. hawk will be awesome though

packers fans know this season is going to be horrible and would rather watch favre throw the ball all over the field for another year than watch rodgers struggle through growing pains

The QB coach needs something to do, since what's he going to tell one of "the best qb's ever" that he doesn't already know?

then need to be 1-15 or 0-16, so they can for sure get the first pic(however, the Panthers were 1-15 and got the number 2 pick) is there a good QB class in next years draft?

the panthers got the #2 pick because Houston was entering the league. Kind of a blessing, as they weren't tempted to draft D. Carr and instead got Peppers

And Green Bay doesn't need a QB in next year's draft -- remember they have Aaron Rodgers waiting to take over. He was arguably the highest rated QB in the '05 draft, but fell way down to Green Bay for some reason. They really need some OL help and some interior DL help though.

what GB NEEDS is Adrian Peterson.

Forget Reggie Bush, this is the guy that will be the next great RB.

He will most likely come out next year.
