alltel does suck, but it gets reception in places other sometimes don't.

i've had decent results with cingular, 450 mins, rollover, blah blah blah, for $46 a month incl. taxes.

verizon gets a slight bit better signal (one or two bars) in cingular territory, but they cost $5-10 more a month.

I think the my circle thing starts at 59.99. So for one person, I don't think you could possibly need that many minutes. But for parents and children who all use in 400 minute range a piece, that plan is pretty good, because you get mobile to mobile, and 10 freebie numbers not with alltel, and what was int he 400 range drops to about 300.

I have Alltel and am outside Greensboro when home, but in Raleigh as well. I get awesome service everywhere. I've never had a problem with them, my plan is very affordable and once you become a customer, you get all sorts of free plan increases. I've increased--for free-- to unlimited mobile to mobile and night/weekends, and was given 200 extra anytime minutes, plus the 'my circle' thing is free. I've been all over the state with this phone and to SC and VA and get complete coverage. I have service when others dont.

I do not recommend Nextel to anyone in Greensboro. My Mom has one for work and it sucks, she works in Greensboro.

Its funny how people think Nextels are for rednecks. A real redneck never has a nextel because it wont work out at his house. Rednecks have Alltell.

Verizon is pretty good. Cheapest plan is $39.99 w/450 minutes. Free N&W at 9 pm and Unlimited inCalling (mobile-to-mobile with other VZWireless customers) They have really good service around the G-boro/RDU/Charlotte area in the central part of the state, and are just putting up coverage on the eastern part. If its not in a Verizon coverage area its backup is the Extended Network, which around here is Alltel, so you basically get Alltel coverage + Verizon's coverage area as well.

I'm switching carriers. If I wait until October 20th, the early termination fee is only $50. I could switch now, but I suppose I can put up with Cingular for another month to save $20.

Has anyone ever had any luck with getting a credit/or reimbursement for ETFs when switching to a new phone company?

if you are switching - typically the new carrier will cover the costs of your termination

^haha you are kidding, right? that is why every cell phone carrier charges a $36 activation fee because they are fixing to write you a check for $175 for leaving your last carrier???...

^^ Same here. We are stuck with shitty SunCom and my fucking phone volume button won't work so I have to shut it off and turn it back on about 5 times a day, but anyways, we talked to Verizon and they said they don't do it. But, if anyone in your family works for the government (don't know if it can be state, but defintely federal), you get a discount. Fuck Suncom, fuck it up it's stupid Harry Connick Jr ass

I love my Alltel service. I've traveled all over the US and have had no problems with service. I got service in places where Verizon didn't. I have a plan that included MyCircle also... basically, I have 900 mins to call whoever I want, plus I can call my 10 numbers free every time. I use about 2000 mins/month and haven't had an overage charge yet. I would recommend Alltel.

^^I'm researching early termination fees now (verizon is going to try and stipulate a $175/line early termination fee. At 2, and possibly 3 lines, I really want to have all my bases covered before committing to a contract with a company like Verizon).

At least with cingular, in a list of states, ETFs are prorated. Trying to figure out if that's cingular's largesse , or whether that was forced on them by state law.

^I'm starting to consider them. I could put 515-2011 as one of my 'in' numbers, and be able to handle every bit of NCSU-related business for free.

sign up with sprint - have them pay your early termination fee - cancel with sprint before your time is up (14 or 30 days)

they might only do this with "national" (business) accounts - but anyone can get one - you just have to tell them you work for any of the companies they have contracts with...

There's a thought...
Where do I find which companies do they have contracts with?

SunCom tried to tell us some BS that it's a problem with our cell phones...yeah all 4 of the phones in my family. That doesn't explain why some days, I will be driving to work and the phone cuts out and doesn't get a signal for about 30 seconds, and then other days it's fine....or how I can be driving to work and it will cut out in one place, but in the same place on the way home, it works fine. Sometimes my phone won't ring even though it gets a bar or two, and it will ring 30 minutes later that I have a voicemail. When I leave my class in Gardner, it won 't work again and go off of "Emergency Only" status until I restart my phone...or my brother's if I've been using it, or whatever, it's not like it's a problem with my phone only. it sucks!

So SunCom charges $200 per LINE for early cancellation (= $800! ) . This sucks.
The Verizon guy was like yeah I can get you discoutned phones, etc, but they won't pay your way out of the contract. Does Sprint Defintely do this?

I just got a very nice deal with Verizon as a state employee. We got two VG8300 phones for just $50 each and just a 1 year contract with a 19% discount as a state employee. The plan is only $58.

Word. That shit is annoying as hell when people from....Saxapahaw...and....Pittsboro...and Efland...come into my work and talk on that shit. It's just rude...one time I was at a restaurant and these guys were on their Nextels chirp chirping back and forth.

Those Bluetooth headsets are annoying too. I feel like no one I see wearing them is THAT important. Those are things that like...CEOs wear or something, not Janice, part time Food Lion cashier, who is talking on her Bluetooth and smoking a cigarette white eating a chicken wing at Bojangles. I can see it if you're in your car and want to be safe, but this is Bullshit.

I have had Alltel for about 4 years and have no complaints with their service. I get a good signal everywhere I go (NC down to Florida) although I'm not sure about the Greensboro Area.

You have to go through the "WeSave" website. It's not an NCSU thing. It is a state employee thing.
