There are a lot of places online to buy the vials of "puppy shots" and a few sites have told me that vets and supply stores carry them, but I can't find a single place that does.

For the record, I have done this before, I know what I am doing, and I always keep a bottle of epi around in case of a reaction.

oh, and I found a lot of places that sell them online, but it doesn't make sense to pay $20 shipping on a $4 bottle.

Don't buy vaccinations online. They are far more important and the potential for danger is far greater than your typical flea/tick prevention you buy online. Besides, as you notced the prices aren't really that great online.

also, you should be concerned about the handling of the vaccines (refrigeration)--which doesn't always occur everywhere vaccines are sold. IMHO, if you have a good vet, puppy vaccinations are a good time for the puppy to get used to going to the vet w/o having anything too scary done (esp. if you give lots of treats and praise).

Feed and seed stores sell DHLPP and other booster vaccines. They're really cheap too.

Would you buy your child's immunizations from a "Mom and Pop" store?

There's often more to a reaction than some epi can help. Also, look at it this way. You MIGHT be saving SOME money in the short run, but what if that batch of vaccines you bought from where ever was mishandled, and that damn cute little puppy you just got ends up getting Parvo or distemper (or damn, even rabies). You could end up killing your dog to save a few bucks.

I would HIGHLY reccomend getting the puppy vaccs at a Vet's office. They are by far the most important. and BTW, Only Vet's are allowed (by law) to give the Rabies vaccine, so you'lll have to go to a vet to get that vaccine anyways, so why pay an extra $25 then and get a DHPP vaccine as well?

Something else to think about... if you ever want to board the dog, etc... you will have to have proof of current vaccinations from a vet... If you put the dog on the plan at Banfield, the vaccinations are free! It only costs $100 to join and then around $25 per month. You save so much money. Plus, you get discounts on medications and services.

^sorry but I call false on saving money with a Banfield plan.

Besides the fact that the doctors are limited by contracts with drug companies in which drugs they can prescribe and use, the cost of a wellness plan FAR outstripes even some of the more expensive vets in town.

If you really want to have a plan for a rainy day, send money and build credit at your vets office, NOT paying a wellness plan.

There are discount ways to vaccinate your pup without putting their health in danger. You can go to spay/neuter clinics and/or rabies clinics. These people are vets and will handle/store the vaccines the correct way.
