I have a Olympus D-580 (wifes actually) and Im trying to take some super upclose shots of some of my corals. However, I cannot seem to focus at any distance other than a few feet away from the tank. I have tried all the settings on the cam, I have tried force focusing and whatnot, but all the pics I try to take come out blurry and unuseable. I can post some screens if its unclear what Im trying to do.

Is there some technique Im not using or is this camera just too crappy for what I want it to do?

yes there is a minimum focus distance, unless you have a camera where you can change the lenses (and put on a close up one on) you are SOL

from a review about the camera:
Quote :
"The D-580 Zoom is equipped with a 3x, 5.8-17.4mm zoom lens (equivalent to a 35-105mm lens on a 35mm camera). Maximum aperture ranges from f/3.1 to f/5.2, depending on the zoom setting. In its normal autofocus (AF) mode, the D-580 Zoom focuses from 1.6 feet (50 centimeters) to infinity, with a macro setting focusing as close as 8.0 inches (20 centimeters). A Super Macro mode brings you in as close as 2.8 inches (7cm), but disables the flash and zoom."

look through the manual on how to set it on Macro mode, or Super Macro mode

The macro modes dont do crap. While Im looking at the screen and taking a macro pic it comes into focus perfect for an instant, but then the pic it takes is blurred to hell. I guess this is just a shitty cam for what im trying to do.
