1) search...there are about 200 threads about sloan
but to help you.....you have to know the material plain and simple. yes questions are like the practice tests but if you don't know the material you won't do well. He re-words questions and definitions so that if you don't understand them you will get the question wrong. Go to him if you need help at any time....trust me this class is hard if you don't know how to work a problem because the tests are short.
He will curve or re-test if the class does really bad though, and he is VERY fair.

Use the "search" function and type in "320", you should find lots of stuff.
Sloan is a MONEY professor, but seriously, memorize everything he teaches you on the HP 10BII calculator, it'll save you on tests.
He curves, but usually no more than a question or two (4-8 points max), so in other words, curving will NOT save your grade in the class.
His exams are pretty much spot-on the notes/homework he assigns. You'll only see about 2-3 Q's per test that are like "WTF" but they're just challenge Q's that actually are related to the notes. He won't screw you on tests EXCEPT for the final. That thing is murder and there's no way around it, but he usually curves the final a bit more...I'm just preparing you.
His TA's last year blew wang, your miles may vary.
His practice exams are VERY good study guides; oftentimes he copies questions exactly & changes the numbers, so study the KINDS of Q's, not just memorizing "A" for this, "B" for that.
It's an awesome course, you'll learn a lot, and a lot of people end up skipping his class a LOT, which IMO is a huge mistake. Some of the most valueable life info I learned at NCSU came from this man, who is extremely nice outside of class if you have any questions btw. 8/23/2006 6:39:16 PM |

if you have trouble with the class at all talk to sloan
he's really cool and very helpful
even though finance is certainly not my strong point, i learned a lot of things from this class that i've incorporated into my personal life (such as retirement planning) he spent a whole day on this and hardly anyone was there, he owns a business and makes a living off his advice and he was giving it away for free in class
if you make an honest effort and ask him questions when you're having trouble you'll have no problem 9/11/2006 3:21:34 PM |

seriously....Sloan will make time to see you...he even gave me job advice when I was in his 400 level class...but understand that if you are looking to go into finance as a career there isnt much that States finance program will do for you other than help you get a job and maybe some connections 9/11/2006 3:25:01 PM |

1. he only curved a few points on each exam 2. exams were from lectures notes, homework problems, & his practice exams 3. he didn't have a TA to help when i took his class 4. questions are alot like his practice exams, just values are changed
and, like someone else suggested, learn how to use the financial calculator, it'll help you out alot on the exams. i would suggest reading over the lecture notes, work out the homework problems & practice exam questions. good luck 9/17/2006 8:36:43 PM |
