Nah... Surely a debate on the pros/cons of a reality show in which one race is to dominate three others is Soap Box worthy.

didn't that amazing race show basically do that this past year? i mean they didn't SAY that specifically, but there weren't many (if any?) multiracial teams.

this is just a marketing ploy for a show that's past it's prime. plain and simple.

That will go great unless they have some kind of swimming or car racing challenge.

if the blacks win, it will be business as usual in competitions
if the asians or hispanics win, it will be a nice suprise, but some will complain about it being "rigged"
if the whites win, we'll here tons of douchebag racists (both sides) coming out of the woodworks to talk about white supremacy or the contest being rigged

terrible idea. F-

this is hilarious... capitalizing off of racial tensions. How is this different from SI Swimsuit edition? Making money off of pure aesthetic qualities.

I think this will be a great social experiment. I'll be watching.

I can picture what's going to happen when the final players get all together.

All the whites are gonna get voted out.

Another reason to not care about reality shows.

12 of the 20 are Californian.

"NYC Officials Want New 'Survivor' Pulled

NEW YORK (AP) - As CBS prepares to launch a new season of the hit reality show "Survivor," this time featuring teams divided by race, enraged city officials are saying it promotes divisiveness and are calling for the network to reconsider.

"The idea of having a battle of the races is preposterous," City Councilman John Liu said Thursday. "How could anybody be so desperate for ratings?"

For the first portion of the 13th season of "Survivor," which premieres Sept. 14, the contestants competing for the $1 million prize while stranded on the Cook Islands in the South Pacific will be divided into four teams - blacks, Asians, Latinos and whites.

Liu, who is Asian-American, said he was launching a campaign urging CBS to pull the show because it could encourage racial division and promote negative typecasts. He and a coalition of officials, including the council's black, Latino and Asian caucus, planned to rally at City Hall on Friday.

As a black or other minority this is probably the most even its ever been for them, because before it was usually like 6 hot young white bitches, 6 young white studs, 2 old white guys, 1 old white lady, and then 1 black guy, 1 black girl, and maybe 1 asian or hispanic guy or girl. Now the whites will be just 25% of the total cast. This is the list of winners racially:

6 white guys
4 white ladies
1 black lady
1 latino lady

So if your of a minority race this might seem like its highlighting race more, which is true, but its also giving you a MUCH greater chance of winning too, so I wouldn't complain a fucking bit. Instead of just being the token black guy or asian lady, now you've got other people like you, so you don't feel like your the fucking outcast in the tribe, and the sacrificial lamb at tribal council.

Also funny to note that of these winners, one white guy (Hatch) is in prison, another got fired from his job for lying about why he wanted the time off, and another is in jail under charges he killed a tame bear in a cage with a bow and arrow. Crazy crackas. Haha.

^x4 Let me get this straight. They have 25% of each race and this is somehow a better representation of reality than having more whites than minorities? Why are minorities minorities? If they wanted it to be closer to reality there would be about 7 whites, 1 black, 1 latino, and about one third of an asian person.

^Of course. He's not saying the numbers mirror reality. He's saying the segregation mirrors reality. But he's also making the mistake of calling it self-segregation.

I thought his point was twofold.

1) That the people on Survivor are paired up such that they are segregated and (for all I know) will work together as members of the same race. This reflects some of the self segregation in society in that people of the same race tend to interact more with people of their same race than they do with people of other races.

2) It's nice to see more minorities on Survivor as opposed to the token few that are only on the show to keep the NAACP off their back. This was the point I was addressing...

I'm not sure how these two points are supposed to be related to the same argument.
