I'm receiving threats from a Soldier in Iraq, more specifically an ex. I'm pretty sure you guys can assume what happened (i broke up with him, he went apeshit). The threats are basically pretty detailed accounts of what he says he's going to do when he comes home. (basically blah blah blah I'm going to kill you blah blah blah I'm going to put you in a hospital) I dunno who in the military to contact to tell him to STFU, because I refuse to contact him anymore to tell him to stop because it goes in one ear and out the other and I'm banking on if someone of authority tells him to STFU then he will but I dunno who that would be.
He's stationed out of Darmstadt, Germany but in Iraq right now. If you need more info I'll have to PM you.

What the fucking hell. Sounds like breaking up was a good thing. I honestly dunno what to tell you unless you know one of his buddies, I doubt an officer would give a shit.

his c.o., or a higher up, such as one of the c.o.'s either at the base he's stationed out of in germany or the one in iraq if you can get ahold of it

Yeah, definitely contact his c.o. My mom has done the before, but that is an entirely different (and personal) story. His c.o. should be able to do at elast SOMETHING though.

basically if you can, find out what batallion/regiment/division he is assigned to and look there. you may be able to find that through a directory on army.mil or marines.mil, whichever he's in

you should also be able to get ahold of a basic m.p. and have them send you up the chain

also that should help big time, especially if you have proof. i know back in jacksonville if a marine is giving you hell out in the city all you have to do is threaten to tell his c.o. and he will quiet the fuck up

If you think that his threats are real, just call the police. At the very least, they should be able to give you some contact information with the military to help get you started. Make sure that you're saving the emails and whatnot.

Well, I was told that internet correspondance won't hold up which is why I'm trying to go the military route instead, but I'm going to try the police anyway... at least get a restraining order or something even though it won't do any good, he'll just view it as a piece of paper

You can try this website for the base in Darmstadt.

http://www.darmstadt.army.mil/sites/local/

Just try to get in touch with anyone that you can and hopefully they will pass it up the chain of command. You could even try to call the Garrison Commander's office.

If you can't get in touch with anyone then try a local recruiter in your area and ask them to help you get in touch with the right people. Things like this will definitely get taken care of if you have proof of the threats, so save any emails or letters that you might have. There have been a few instances of soldiers coming back from overseas and killing their spouses, so don't take it lightly. Good luck.

The police is a good idea as well. When I was in the Navy, the police and military forces worked together in cases like this.

Have you considered purchasing and training with a gun? Hopefully one of the other things you try (police, CO, restraining order etc...) works, but it never hurts to have all the bases covered.

Hell, if you're at State, e-mail our ROTC commander; being an officer, he's probably got some connections. Can't hurt to start off from higher up the chain of command.

That actually makes the indiscretion almost more forgivable.

I can't believe in a time of war that people would consider injuring/threatening/killing another military member.

Wtf does my "hottness" or lack of "hottness" have to do with me getting threats? I'm quite aware I'm not the hottest thing to walk the block but I'm not going to let some brat threaten me. And you're one to talk, with no photos in your gallery.

You've beholden law enforcement into an unattainable ivory tower of jurisprudence. Do you expect them to be PERFECT? I mean really, your expectations are WAYYY too high here.

Well, if he is KIA or MIA in Iraq, you can safely put this whole thing behind you and go to his funeral, cry some, get all the sympathy and maybe win a house on national television.

You can put this little nasty snafu behind you and be the martyr of the century. Then you can screw his best buddy in the safety of your new house.

There are many upsides to your situation.

DEFINITELY go to his CO or about anyone in his squadron to start the business. I doubt the police would do anything, seriously, but that's just me and my experiences. However, CO's and chain of commands will get military to do anything, even get p.o.s. Navy sailors to pay up.

Germany...I'm guessing Army? Good thing you got out of that.

Pursue both the local law enforcement AND chain-of-command routes, CowboyLovinU. That way, you have a local police report and you can get something done through his CO. And I don't care what his rank is; he has a boss that will ream his ass.

I was in the US Army; I know what I'm talking about. In addition, I helped a friend of mine with a problem like this. His ex-wife had abruptly taken their child to Italy with her new husband, a soldier. The wife basically told her ex-husband to f-off. He asked me what he should do.

My friend had no idea what unit the soldier was in, so I got on the phone to USAEUR (United States Army Europe) and started there. I eventually worked my way down to the soldier's squad leader (the soldier didn't even have a phone). THE NEXT DAY my friend got a call form his ex-wife begging him not to contact the CO. His daughter ended up coming home to live with him.

Contact the Army. They don't screw around with this kind of thing. It will probably cost some long-distance money, though. Phone card, maybe?

i think you should try to contact his direct supervisor instead of someone high up. I'm sure being in iraq has caused a lot of stress, and maybe if you contact his immediate supervisor he can resolve the situation without any unnecessary drama.

I mean you definetly have a right to do something about it, but I mean it's understandable that being in a war could cause some people to freak out.

Well, not that calling someone an alias carries a lot of weight other than the fact it's a cheap stunt to look like a minority opinion is carried by more than one person using multiple handles.

Basically in your case the minority being that you're acting like a douche and need to get over your Army service.

While he shouldn't be threating you, you never mentioned if you broke up with him while he was in Iraq, the day before he left, or is he just an old-ex. I have sympathy for the guy if you wrote him a dear john letter, and if that is the case he is probably just hurting right now and I understand where he is coming from, give him a few months and will probably not give a shit about you. However, if he just randomly started threatingly you from Iraq for no reason, then yea do whatever you can about it.
