Yes, like every other article of this nature, it's not exactly tautological, but I always enjoy any good press our area gets.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14625179/ "Silicon Valley ranks last in an annual ranking of 12 U.S. technology hubs because of the region's notoriously high housing costs, traffic congestion, unemployment rate and other quality-of-life problems. According to a survey by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, the nation's top-ranked tech hub is North Carolina's Raleigh-Durham area, which enjoys relatively affordable housing and a thriving job market. The region also wins points for local kids' performance on eighth-grade math tests, as well as comparatively low sales taxes and affordable utility bills." 9/4/2006 8:31:40 AM |

when they say we are the first, what does that mean?
i mean ok so what, we have the best place for tech jobs, what benefits does that give north carolina?
what makes it a good thing that the raleigh area of nc is the best tech hub
not trolling, just trying to figure out what benefits this brings 9/7/2006 1:08:03 AM |

WTF? Are you retarded? It brings in more jobs, which brings in more people, which brings in more money, which allows more people to spend money in the community, which makes the standard of living higher.

recently disproven myth
US cities are growing yes, but they are just becoming larger versions of what already exists....
there is some article on it showing growth around several major cities and it's not much, just seems like it
US cities tend to sprawl to begin with... something I'm not a fan of but there isn't much you can do about it9/7/2006 8:49:09 AM |

your statement really makes no sense to me are you saying there is not much sprawl around Raleigh - it just "seems like it"?

RTP having a good job market means a lot of NC grads in the technology and science sectors can stay here and work in their state and improve the state economy, which if you'll remember is why state universities exist. It also means people don't have to leave home because the job prospects suck in their chosen fields, which is what many of my friends from western PA have had to do, leaving for New York, Ohio, or the DC area. 9/7/2006 4:13:13 PM |

Studies have shown that the general trend is urbanization and re-gentrification of major cities rather than increase sprawl. Millennial tend to disfavor having their plop of land, fence, and new house on the edge of the city in the suburbs.
BTW I have been passively looking for a new electrical engineering controls job and would love to move back to Raleigh. Recruiters always hit me up for new jobs in
Charlotte Columbia Greensboro Shit-Hole Small town NC/SC Rocky Mount
I do not think I've had a single call about a potential job engineering job opportunity in the triangle over the last year even though i tell recruiters I'd be interested in jobs there
