I have a piece of shit old Gateway Astro. However I have been using it to run midi files and it works (worked) perfectly for that. That's all I use it for as all the midi recording software is on it. All of the sudden I am getting this:

Error: Nav auto protect is unable to start!
SYMEVNT.386 is unable to start. You may need to reinstall Norton Anti-Virus to correct the problem.
Press any key to continue.........

But when I press any key nothing freakin' happens!
Any help to fix it is worth a six pack of your choice (if you be legal)

PS. I know I'll catch some shit for having a piece of shit like this Astro, but it has served the purpose!

Restart in safe mode and uninstall Norton if it will let you.

Depending on the version of Windows thats running on it you can disable startup items via the registry or msconfig. I'm going to assume its probably Windows 98/2000.

If it's 98/ME/XP just use msconfig.

If it's 2000 use regedit. http://helpdesk.wisc.edu/page.php?id=1688 That link explains what to do.

thanks a lot. I'll try it. It did come up in safe mode once, but I didn't know what the hell to do. I appreciate the advice!
