Anybody know of a shop (or a broke gearhead) that would press a U-joint in an axle tommorrow?

i would, but my press is loaned out to a friend. i could do it later in the week if you can wait. what sort of axle is it? you don't HAVE to have a press for most, thought it's alot better.

3/4 ton ram,
yeah, i've done a few with just a ball-peen but normally end up spewing needle bearings all over the garage.

It's much simpler with a press or vise

A ball pein? Are you a fucking scrotard?

Get an 8" goddam c-clamp. Works pretty fucking good.

i could probably help you out on Thursday. I can't really do anything tomorrow bc i have class, then work pretty soon after. tomorrow night is a possibility depending on how big of a rush you're in. and r u in that AGR frat or whatever letters they use? just wondering, bc i like ur stacks [no homo]

also, you can use my vise or i can do it for you, whatever works best for you

[Edited on September 5, 2006 at 11:47 PM. Reason : \/ i could tack em for ya also, not a bad idea]

yeah, a large c-clamp+a pair of channel locks or something to get some force behind it actually works quite well on the 94-01 ram shafts. might want to throw a tack weld on the caps/ears when you're done, dana shafts like to spit caps after joints are replaced. ESPECIALLY if the failure was from stress, not just old age.

I'm im AGR, but the stacks aren't on my truck anymore, they're on a reg cab 12 valve now (another AGR)

I'll try it tomorrow with my C-clamp, if i doesn't work out I'll get up w/ BigBlue or Jeep.
^^I'll probly get you to to tack it later if you don't mind

thanks y'all

I would love to go to Tellico, heard a lot about it, but never been, always wondered how some of our eastern mud toys would work up there

^^careful with the heat when you do, it's a delicate weld to make and have it hold right, also easy to over do. keep in mind it's hardened steel to cast.
^not too well on anything but the easy trails unless you don't give a damn about body damage. even at that, most mud trucks are hardly set up to do much else but flounder around and break on the rocks.

Dearest Reid...illiterate though you may be...

The Channelocks are to turn the C-clamp's screw. Not to squeeze the caps in the shaft. BTW, I've beaten a bunch in, pressed a bunch in, and screwed a bunch in. It's a lot easier to press in or screw in (a la c-clamp) and NOT bend your u-joint ears on yer shaft. Don't ask me how I know these things.

Love, Dan
