Mastering is usually pointless for home studio/low budget recordings. The first two White Stripes albums weren't mastered and they sound fine (just as an example). On top of that, I'm not going to pimp Red Bull on a record sleeve or in public just because I got a cheap/free mastering job.

I think you guys are missing the point here. Red Bull is putting on a clinic to teach kids how to use music editing software and produce their own stuff. It is more of an educational thing.

If Red Bull was trying to get paid, how does helping 10 kids produce their own music help them that much? Have you heard of this clinic anywhere else? I really dont think it would be that smart to do something like this solely for advertising.

Seriously think before you say something that dumb....red bull has got enough money to advertise anyway they want to and yet they decide they want to help 10 musicians, I would call that helping the little man instead of whoring out their name and using the money to push the product.

interesting fact here....Red Bull spends ZERO money for advertising in movies. They do however give free product to big names that request it. When you see Red Bull in that kind of setting it is simply the producer/actor/whoever that is hitting back red bull for giving them a free product that they love.

Alright guys, I'm not trying to get in a big argument here about advertising campaigns....all I'm doin is trying to let people know about a great opportunity to learn about music editing and production. I think we can all agree that spending big money on something like this is not gonna have as much of an effect as making tv ads. Red Bull is just trying to help out people here.

PS. Red Bull is shelling out BIG $ to make this happen. Just think how much it cost to rent out an area, buy all the equipment, hire professionals (fly them in), rent out a whole bar to have a promo party, and then take the best tracks and then give them out for free worldwide to show peoples talent. This is not cheap.

BTW, I'd like to state that I have no problem with this program. Personally, I find it hard to believe that anyone with truly good material is going to 1) have trouble figuring out how to use Pro Tools or a Tascam 424 or 2) have to worry, in 2006, about recording quality sabotaging their shot at an offer sheet, but whatever. I also have no problem with the fact that ewalk works for Red Bull.

Second, I see three people listed under lecturers. Two are guys I've never heard of (not even in TapeOp), and one is a hack.

Call me when Steve Albini and Daniel Lanois (who is also a hack, but one of note) are on this thing and I might consider handing away my rights to get in.

I also work for Red Bull, and I was trying to get ewalk to elaborate on the benefits of this program and tell TWWers about the things that would go on. Instead, he cursed a lot at a prospective participant.

So anyway, check out the site if you are or know someone who likes to make music but doesn't know much about making records or doesn't have the cash to put together a recording rig or get in a studio.
