Hey... I'm trying to get an off campus parking permit, since obviously it's too late to get one for campus. Does anyone know anything about Valpark? I know it's really expensive and everything... but I really need a parking space.
I live in Sullivan, so valpark seems like it's the closest, since I can see it from my room.... but are there any other ones that are a good option?

you should still be able to get a parking permit to the school. Just not necessarily where you want it. I would be very suprised if they didn't have any S permits. And I believe they are quite a bit less than Valpark.

the school offered me one near the baseball fields or some crap, as well as a park & ride, but i rejected that offer because all of my classes are basically right across from Valpark (fox, bostian, etc), and there is no way I am riding a bus like, 25 minutes from centennial campus or the one near carter finley. ValPark pretty much sucks ass. You most likely will not get a paved space, and its $350/semester if you pay one semester at a time, or $600/year, and they only take cash or checks, no credit cards. Someone was parked in my space for two weeks, so instead of making them move, they gave me another spot (granted, it was a move to a paved spot, but it's about 20 feet away, so it's not a big deal), which is just a pain in the ass....and there's a billion pieces of broken beer bottle in the space they won't clean up. I mean, take what you can get, though.

These rich bastards could defintely take all their money and build a parking deck or something, but they're pretty cheap.

I can get an S permit in the Varsity lot some such ridiculously faraway place. Do the buses run from there during the night? It just doesn't seem practical if they don't. It would be okay if I was just using it during the day, but I would probably be taking my car out and coming back after peak bus hours. Just a thought.

What about other places besides valpark.... are there any?

I heard about a place called valentine parking, but i am pretty sure they are owned by the same people, since the guy who owns valpark, his last name is valentine. some people who live near campus will let you buy spaces. look in the classifieds in the technician - i can recall a few last school year that weren't val park. i think maybe the brewery (right next to valpark) might rent out spaces too.

My freshman year, I parked at my church's student center, which was only about 2 blocks away from campus. It was a small walk that took about 15 minutes, but it was free and safe.

In short, if you have a particular religious affiliation that may have a location near campus, check with them.

S lot is not far to walk even if you have to do it. My freshmen year I parked on Marcomb st. behind the S lot and would drop my car off every sunday night and walk back to central campus.

Yeah, S lot isnt too bad. About a 20 minute walk from sullivan, tops, and the Varsity bus runs about every 15 minutes, and it is on the night route if you dont want to walk.

park and ride isn't that bad, 15 mins bus ride. Don't waste $600 on parking each year.

If you are on-campus, this is probably your best option. I can't find the cost of the S-permit anywhere on their website, but I don't remember it being more than $100. Unless you need-need a car during the weekdays (i.e. for a job), park it there during the week and pick it up before the weekend begins. As a freshman, you are going to have to sacrifice some convenience.

you do know the lot near the baseball fields is all of another minute farther walking than the val park lots right? especially the bio area

i don't know if they're still offering it or not, but i remember seeing the guys at the convenience store up by subway offering parking spots for the year/semester. there's a lot behind that small strip of shops that no one ever really uses.

Uhm, no. That's the west lot, E permit.

The S lot is off gorman.
In addition to the varsity bus, you can catch either of the shuttles that run to WV, and cross western and the mckimmon center parking lot easily. If you walk through the orchard, behind the NC State sign, you can cross where the road hasn't widened yet, and it's not as bad as you might think.

And an S permit is $175, people

Valentine is different from valpark if I am not mistaken. Valentine is a customer of mine, and I am pretty sure that the valparks guy's exwife runs valentine. They have parking spots right near campus, by the bell tower.

Hey, I park at the Hillsborough YMCA at a lot off Cox avenue that connects to pullen park by a wooden bridge. It's not too bad of a walk and you pay per semester (somewhere in the neighboorhood of 200 bucks). I don't have the Hillsborough Y's number on me, but you can call 848-YMCA and they can get you the number. Hey, if you're gonna pay and park off campus, you may as well give your money to an organization that's worthy enough and needs it.

I parked at Val-Park my freshman year. 3 weeks into my first semester my car was broken into, CD player jacked, and 200 CDs gone. 2 windows busted completely out too.

I wasn't alone. 15 other cars got hit from the beginning of the semester to week 3. That place is NOT watched over and is a hotbed for theft. I'd HIGHLY recommend doing something else if at all possible.

The S lot is still around? Is that the one way past what the old E lot used to be? I remember, in 99 when I was a sophamore, thats where I parked, and it was over a mile from Tucker, where I lived, to the S lot.

But seeing as how I didnt think I'd be having a car on campus till I was a senior, I loved every bit of that walk to and from my truck.

hahaha. you can park a half mile from central campus in numerous spots for free (and not 2hr parking either). just explore and you will reap the rewards.
