I know I have probably asked this before, but I want to know, again, what is my car going to be able to get if I sell it. Looks like I may have to since my new job isn't paying me what was agreed on when I got the job, and now my finances are getting fucked over.

Anyways its a 97 Z-28 Camaro Convertible A4 with about 88k miles. All options but SS kit. Paint/body in real good shape. Interior is great. Brand new tires on it. Satellite radio with all new speakers.

The bad news. Blown gasket. 2nd gear is gone. Top has a tear by the back glass which has come loose from the top and needs to be glued back.

I currently owe $4200 on it. Can I even get that out of it selling it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'd be lucky to get what you owe out of it, in fact, its extremely unlikely. think 2500 as is.

damn, you owe $4200 on a car that's worth $2200 and will probably take near $2000 to get it's value back up to $4200??

Look at kbb and edmunds and then factor in your problem areas.
I think that it should be possible to get over 4k out of it as is.

well look at it this way, you can go to a junkyard, grab a tranny, swap it out yourself for around $200, get the top fixed downtown for les than $50 if its not a bad tear, and yank the head off, get a top end gasket set for about $60, and sell the car for $1500-2000 more than what its worth now, for ~$300 worth of parts and a couple days labor

Condition Value

Excellent
$7,980

Good
$7,385

Fair
$6,600

Well I have been purposely keeping it broke for this express reason, if you must know. I have like 1.5 years left to pay it off. She's been busting my ass for a while to sell it. Its not a major monthly expense, I pay right at 200/month for it. But I've been able to use the whole excuse that "it ain't worth what the loaned amount is" as my excuse for keeping the damn thing and truthfully have not been able to save up enough to get the repairs done properly. Its not sitting on blocks rusting away though or anything, I've got it wrapped up under a car cover under a tree in my sideyard on the driveway. So the paint/interior isn't getting ruined by the son, the top is covered by a plastic piece under the car cover so the rain is not getting inside, etc. I've basically been trying to keep it like it is so that in another year when she's paid off, I can fix it up right and have a pretty kickass ride with low miles for its age. Thats been the plan anyways.

if you don't view it as a major monthly expense - why haven't you been paying more than your car payment on it...

Because I have been busy buying a fucking house and other things that took precedence. If this shit wasn't broke I would be far from upside down on it. Shit I have not put 5 miles on it in the last year to make sure I wasn't running the bitch out flipwise.

No the kid that I bought it from apparently did though. I've babied it as anybody that has seen me keep it can tell you. I've pretty much kept it wrapped up ever since I bought it, and though I do like to drive it (she's no garage queen) getting screwed by work and not getting the commissions I was promised is making the need to sell it a greater reality.
