So I've got a 99 Camaro and the transmission has just begun to slip--I took it to some general care bullshit place and their initial reaction was to tell me that it needed replacing, but they also said they weren't positive because they didn't want to start messing with it because they didn't want to be liable if they fucked up.
So I want to find a place to go to that knows what they're talking about. I've heard Eastern Transmission is good, anyone else have any suggestions? 9/16/2006 11:55:28 PM |

I realize that it could probably be serviced and fixed without having to have the transmission replaced. That's why I'm asking for a competent shop, not one that tells me right off that it needs to be replaced. 9/17/2006 10:29:28 AM |

it likely is too far gone to fix at this point 9/17/2006 11:24:54 AM |

If it's an automatic tranny, I'd suggest Charlie Brown's Transmission on Wake Forest Road. Charlie's daughter is married to none other than Chuck Amato. Great guy and will take good care of you. 9/20/2006 11:51:04 AM |

I was about to ask the same question. Tranny's acting funny on our s-10, so I want someone to flush/fill and tell me everything's going to be alright. Barring that, someone who will service it and not bend me over too bad. 9/25/2006 8:57:36 PM |

Sometimes after we've been on the highway, it'll shift down and stay there. We have to pull off for a few minutes then its good to go for awhile. It's also starting to use more transmission fluid. There's about 100K on this tranny and I'm pretty sure it's never been flushed and is probably on the original filter as well if that matters.
Every once in awhile it seems like its losing power as well. I'm guessing its a fuel problem, and am switching out the fuel filter. That, or maybe a clogged Catalytic/muffler.
We're getting rid of this thing in a couple of months, and I really don't want to dump a pile of money into it if I can help it. Gotta do what we have to, but all things considered, I'd rather have someone else pay for all the repairs that are going to start creeping up soon. 9/25/2006 9:29:10 PM |
