You know you can support a program without going to that school.
There is probably a lot of disagreement (a.k.a. arrogance) but if you were raised as a homer to a team,,, just buying merchandise, tickets, joining clubs etc... that supports the team as well. You are contributing to the success of a program, you should want results. So cheer away for any team you want. As long as you are pitching in.

you lose the right to cheer for a college you dont attend when you attend another college

or when you only like them because they win

I'm a fan of well run college football programs.

Oh, and NC State.

well, there is a difference between a team being "your team" and just cheering for a particular team against another team.

You should only have one team that you like above all else but there isnt a damn thing wrong with liking one team over another in a seperate game. Its stupid to say people have to like one team and be totally neutral towards the other 115+ teams, thats retarded.

There's a huge difference between cheering for a team and being arrogant about that team.

to pull for a team b/c you were raised a fan or what have you is ok, but for your team to be a school you didn't attend is lame.

just to defend myself

ive been there since i was born, my dad went there... i watched every game with the family, i went through the tears with the kordell stewart hail mary at age 8 in '94... i have been on the couch for every game possible since i moved here to NC blah blah blah... i endured and stand by their shitface performance of 7-5 last year... case closed... they could lose the next 8 games and ill still love them, even though i wont be happy

that's great, pull away for michigan, but understand that it's annoying as shit when our team is doing as bad as they are and people are saying stuff like 'whatever i'm a michigan fan and we're doing great'

pulling for michigan in every game they play is fine by me, but for michigan to be 'your team' isn't really kosher. but who am i to tell you who your team is.

I like teams by Conference

Its ACC, then BIG-10, then SEC

ACC only because its the conference im in, i really enjoy the style of football in the big 10 and then SEC for its football as well

and then teams that I cheer against cuz they are faggots

and I never cheer for a team from California and most of the PAC-10

athletes in big programs are just a different kind of whores. college students who think there is something "special" between themselves and athletes because they go to the same school are idiots. the school is using the jocks as much as the jocks are using the schools.

what pisses me off is that I can watch football for days going by this mentality. I really dont have college football team that I like outside of State, but I could watch football for a long damn time pulling against other teams....or hoping that the player I dont like for a team gets hurt or has a bad game. Thats one reason I'm able to watch UNC play sports.

BINGO.

I grew up a Louisville fan.

I didn't cheer for them while I went to NC State.

I sure as hell didn't cheer for them against Miami.

I'm happy and all to see Louisville do well, I like Louisville still, but I wouldn't talk shit on their behalf. I didn't go there. They are not "my team" or "us".

put it this way, i might be alone in this situation but.....

if michigan were to play n.c. state. i would cheer for michigan. ive been all around them since birth, meaning 20 years, in reality 17 though because thats when i started liking sports cause i was 3 years old...

basically cheering against michigan is too foreign for me and i just couldnt get through it. ive been loving n.c. state for 3 years, since attending here. 17 michigan years, 3 n.c. state (it's just implanted like that in my head regardless of it making more sense to cheer for your school, which i agree should be the case)

^not really an excuse, i was a DIE HARD duke fan until I came to state, I could care less about them now, as soon as I got here, I became an instant State fan, and have been ever since

to pull for any team that is going against your alma matter is the stuff of the 9th circle of Dante's inferno. further, pulling for lifelong rivals is betrayal of the worst kind. if you pulled for UNC while going to either State or Duke, you will probably get 455-pounded by hell demons for eternity. but seeing as how you pulled for them in the first place, you might actually enjoy that.

but maybe that should be taken with a half ton of salt. when i moved to this country (directly into zip code 27606) at 8 years old, the first thing i identified with was the Pack. its been in my blood ever since.

I was the same way. Then they almost beat us in football my freshman year and the switch clicked on i was like "yo....FUCK DUKE"....then i was yelling my lungs out the entire game when we beat them in basketball that year. It took until the day we played them for me to make the switch, but it was pretty much instant after that and I've hated them since.

I'm down with this.

Obviously, NC State is "my team" since I've got the degree & merch to back it up. I "pull for" a few other teams, namely West Virginia since I now live in WV, and Notre Dame just because I dig the history and all.

I own a WVU hoodie & shirt 'cause it's pretty fun to hang out & watch WVU games 'round these parts, espc. when they're so dominant of late.

But still, "my team" always has been & always will be NC State and only NC State, regardless of how bad things might get.

And I agree wholeheartedly with ssjamind; NO, and I mean NO NCSU student should ever pull for, root for, own merch, etc. for UNC especially, and Duke as well IMO. No heterosexual State student should ever as much as "like" UNC, period. If you do, you're at the wrong school, please see I-40 to Chapel Hill kkthx
