All the old Avett Brothers threads were old, and instead of posting a new thread everytime they have a concert around here per the usual, I figure we can just keep everything in this one
The new six-track 'The Gleam' came out today; it has no Bob Crawford and therefore no bass, but the resulting songs are just easy listening acoustic affairs focusing on usual Avett themes of

Throw in some harmonica, and it's just more awesomeness from the Avetts, at least I think so9/19/2006 8:31:11 PM |

I don't like the EP as a whole as much as their other stuff, but "If It's The Beaches" is amazing. 9/19/2006 9:59:46 PM |

I concur, I like the EP but not as much as their other stuff... In general though, these guys can do no wrong.
They've been playing a song that will be on their next album at shows lately, I really like it a lot and it has me looking forward to the next one already (supposedly Q1 '07).
Anyone been attending any shows recently? For me:
Aug 25th - Asheville (the Orange Peel) Aug 27th - Charlotte (Verizon) Sep 9th - Greensboro (Get Downtown Festival)
and upcoming:
Sep 21st - Athens (Georgia Theatre)

the first two or three times i saw them i was totally down. but after seeing them at the cat's cradle i just haven't found myself interested anymore. it's like the crowds keep getting more and more obnoxious, and not in a cute way. 9/20/2006 10:07:41 AM |

Heard them for the first time at their show in G-boro, and it wasn't half bad.
Pretty neat mix of genres and music. 9/20/2006 10:47:35 AM |

these dudes were in art school with me at ecu. good artists and good musicians. Nice guys too
I saw their very first show where they broke away from their hard rock band and tested out the folky stuff. It was pretty rowdy.

sarijoul: I know exactly what you mean, and it sucks. Lots of teenage myspacers + the 20-somethings seem to show up mostly to get trashed.
But still, i think they are one of the best live acts I've ever seen.
slackerb: their show in G-boro (if you're talking about the outdoor one) was not one of their best (though still good ). If you can catch them in their natural environment (small clubs), its' much much better. 9/20/2006 11:49:31 AM |

much to my chagrin, there isn't.
I think those are some of their best songs. And in case you hadn't noticed, very rarely are they actually about girls... 9/20/2006 1:13:07 PM |

not specifically in name this time, my favorite off of 'The Gleam' is also 'If It's the Beaches'
even though probably close to a solid third of all songs ever written are about a girl in some way or another 9/20/2006 1:13:53 PM |

^ Yeah I agree. It's just for me, I know how Scott write's his songs, and I know Seth really well (or use to), so I feel that their song-writing is getting repetitive. Not that the music is bad, as I still find their music to be good music. 9/20/2006 10:05:08 PM |

anybody going to the new year's eve show in charlotte or the show here on the 29th?
i was at the new years eve show last year at neighborhood theatre, it rocked, i'm POed that I'm not gonna be able to this year 12/16/2006 7:01:50 AM |

I'll be at New Year's. My roomie has some extra tickets I think, if that's what's holding you back. Always a great show.
Wish I could make it to Raleigh on the 29th too, but by the time I talked myself into it, the tickets were gone. Oh well.
I saw them last month at this place called the Bamboo Room in Florida. It was totally awesome. House of Blues-type place (but smaller) with tables. Of course, since I was the first to get tickets, our table was front + center. Crowd was small, about 15-20 people. So we all just sat there and got to request every single song they played, and they rocked the fuck out for us. It was great. 12/16/2006 11:02:21 AM |

And yes, as of right now, their next show is in Boone at the Appalachian Roots Festival... I am seriously contemplating a road trip up there because it has been WAY TOO long since I have seen these guys!!

Considering going up to NYC on May 12th for their album release (and to possibly pick up their limited edition CD - sold only at this show and the philly show the night before).

and they rocked some conan. It was surreal seeing them on there, I feel like I've grown up with them-- seeing them so many times in places like UNC's crappy little auditorium, to the lincoln theatre, to all kinds of places in charlotte, then the pavilion, now CONAN.
