Yes, it's hurricane season, but I have 3 days in Florida and while I have some ideas, I'm wondering if anyone here has any good suggestions? We're flying into Orlando on Friday and out of West Palm on Sunday. We will have a rental car for transportation.

Sorry if this is a repeat thread - I searched "west", "palm", "west palm", and "west palm beach" here and chit chat with no relavent results.

ok whatever u do don't go to disney world. for nightlife city walk is cool but its much better if u go out of tourist area into the city of orlando downtown some of hte best in the world.

beaches-tampa/st pete area ftw(1 hour from orl)
thrill parks-universal or bg if u go to tampa

if ur that type of person go to cape canaveral kennedy space center

west palm is a good 2.5-3.5 hours from orlando. i dont know anything about that area. i pwn central flroida but all i know is that west palm is about 1 hour from miami which has lots to do.

^ THANK YOU for a serious response - yes, I'm well aware of all the commercialized goodies in Orlando. I thought (and still do think) some people on here have suggestions such as good restaurants, interesting attractions that don't come up on the usual radar, etc.

For example ... Arabian Nights (similar to Medevial Times) plays in Orlando at night ... not really an "unusual" thing, but different from the overplayed 3-ish star dinner at TGIF or Ruby Tuesday and I think the beer is free ...

charleys steakhouse is a must stop. it is commonly ranked the #1 steakhouse in the country and they use a unique cooking technique tehy got from the seminole tribes cooking their steaks over a flame fueled by a variety of different woods and flowers all native to only florida.

one in orlando one in tampa.

also alot of kobe's. great place.

seafood is good in st pete

international drive has some of everything randomly including a gourmet mcdonalds (yes they sell deli sandwiches and all kinds of nice shit) with the worlds largest playspace

if you want a neat historic taste sarasota(south of st pete) is teh cuteness

the gulf coast>>>>>>the atlantic coast. true beauty in the tamp/st pete area. cocoa and much of the atlantic coast is just like being in wilmington.

I-Drive is shit. Unless you want to go to awesomely stupid places like that big McDonald's or TGI Friday's, then be a loser and go. Otherwise, go downtown. Trust me.

that steak house sounds good - I'd go for seafood but hubby can't stand the smell. We've got a couple Dali prints - sounds interesting - might see a few others we like and maybe pick up other prints when we get back (don't want to deal with it on the plane). Neither of us drinks really, at least not any more, so bars/alcohol-in-general isn't a real motivator And yes, while Disney has plenty of cool stuff, this is a weekend for US without the kids ... we're planning tentatively to take them sometime in spring/summer 08 because we will have saved enough by then and both kids will be old enough to enjoy it.

stay the fuck out of kissimmee, just south of orlando

i'm writing this as i sit in the best western there.

the most entertaining nightlife i have seen here is watching the fat kids fight over the frozen yogurt machine at golden corral. i just kept trying to tell myself that it was dinner theater.

I'm not sure how much driving you're willing to do, but if you're willing to drive to Tampa/Sarasota, you may as well head a little further to one of the keys. My coworkers and myself were down there on business a while back and headed to Siesta Key one evening - there are quite a few nice places to eat, walk around, etc.

lmao. tampa is nowhere near the keys! its like 6 hours from kew west.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO LA, YOU MIGHT AS WELL GO A LITTLE FURTHER AND SEE-ATLE!

[Edited on September 21, 2006 at 10:53 PM. Reason : rolf 7 hours per mapquest and prolly 8 from orlando....might as well go a little further!]

^^tampa is a little over an hour away from Siesta Key and Lido Key (there are more, those are just the two that I've visited...sarasota is minutes away. I'm not talking about going to Key West - that's just dumb. Someone needs to learn to check a map before they "lmao."

not likely we'll drive toward Tampa since most of our day is over by the time we get there, and Saturday night we've already got a room booked for West Palm ... maybe another time if/when we go down we'll stay gulf side and see stuff

and josh as far as 8am flights ... fuck it, go anyway, then just sleep on the plane. That's what I'd do in your position. Although it's too late now.

the "keys" are the islands from key largo to key west. just because something else has key in it doenst make it the "keys" when you say the "keys" thats what you're talking about. anything else you need to just say out. thats just how it is.

west palm is an awesome city. they have a "city market" sort of like our new north hills or our moore square area, just on a larger scale. that should hold you over for a couple nights at least.

west palm, and palm beach have some of the most beautiful houses in the country. You should really consider driving around for a bit and checking out some of the estates. Trump, Gillette, Rod Stewart just to name a few. All very impressive. Worth Ave. is palm beaches Rodeo Dr. if you are into shopping.
