hi all, every now and then i have a problem with my laptops wireless card i put in it

its a dlink airplus g card, and every now and then i'll boot up the computer, put it in, and it says "found new hardware" and says it found an "ethernet controller"

well obviously i cant install driver files for it since its a dlink card, and sometimes if i just push the power button for 7 seconds it will shut off and i'll boot it up and it will work...today it took me about 45 minutes and 4 or 5 reboots to finally get it to work

any idea why this can sometimes work and sometimes say "found new hardware" as an "ethernet controller"?

It should always say "found new hardware" if you plug in a wireless card that wasn't there when the machine booted up. If it has a driver it'll typically just start the driver and the card will work.

Why do you say you can't install drivers since it's a dlink card? Go to Dlink's website, get the latest drivers, and start from there.

And why are you putting the card in? Why not just leave it in or put it in before booting up?

no like i dont need to install the drivers because the card sometimes works

but sometimes it doesnt and comes up as "found new hardware" as an "ethernet controller"

i dont know why it'd call itself an ethernet controller when it usually comes up like this:

Uninstall from device manager, reboot, download drivers from manufacturers site, install, put card in...
