mostly for the publicity..at least for lesser known artists. as for the people hosting the tapes they get paid for that shit.

i mean i figured the publicity thing but damn

im sitting here listening to lupe fiascos mixtape and im think he couldve taken some of these rhymes, gotten some dope beats, and created a masterpiece

i mean why not just drop an album?

its not like they put out exclusive shit on mixtapes. its usually a single, or a freestyle over a jacked beat. it aint hurtin em none. and if you cant write an ass-ton of rhymes you shouldnt be rhymin

like blashphemour said, rappers can talk reckless on a mixtape. the label has no control over what they say. also, it keeps the buzz goin.
