What do you guys think. I think it's still going to be a tough year. 3 wins in the ACC is what I'm guessing but there is hope now.

One thing I liked that maybe has been a bit overlooked.

6-49

What's that? The penalties for the game. It's been a long time since we played a mostly disciplined game. If we can do that everytime out we can get a shot. Now is the time we'll really see what we have with Chuck. Can he bottle this and work the team and make them even better? Or will we regress and fall in to the same old crap?

I think the next few weeks will go a long way in to seeing if Chuck really is the person we want in charge of this program.

We've had some serious motivational issues against unranked teams the last couple of years. The Wake game will give us some indication of whether that's true again.

we need to quit with the false starts if we want to play good on a consistent basis. i counted 4

Well, at least the false starts were all different players, no one consistent player screwing up like Derrick Morris. An OL getting a false-start one play a game isn't too bad. That one where the RT pulled before the ball was snapped was pretty bad but had they not called it he'd have definitely gotten to the hole in time to throw a good block, haha.

We had some stupid mental errors, like the false starts and the late hit by Crouch(kinda weak to begin with). Stuff like that can be dealt with. I'm just glad we didn't get any D penalties except that one kicker penalty(which is why I was one of the few people chanting "just-catch-that-kick" instead of "block-that-kick", haha.

Right now it's a blip because we don't know how the team will go into the next game. I think the Evans move has helped the offense out a lot(we have a passing game ) but we'll still need a better effort all around against teams like FSU and Clemson.

We just need to keep the motivation and take this game for confidence. Having A.J Davis back helped a lot, and I'm ready to get Blackman and everyone else back.

^I think having AJ Davis made the difference on defense. Jeremy Gray sounds like a good egg, but he's given up way too much in the first 3 games. Levin, AJ, and Sutton are 3 pretty good DB's and I feel like they had great coverage all night because we barely got to Ryan at all for most of the game. Reason I say AJ made the difference is because he had a huge PBU early in the game and I didnt notice them throw his way the rest of the game.

I hope this isnt a blip, and I'm really glad we get more than 7 days to prepare for FSU because we could have a major letdown next weekend after the way we won that game.

[Edited on September 24, 2006 at 12:52 PM. Reason : he seemed pumped as shit to be on the field too. That was nice to see. ]

Wake might be ranked when we meet them. They have Liberty and Clemson between now and then.

chuck needs to start watching tape of that clemson oline in thier losses and figure some shit out. they dont even go down on the line and just flatten every team they play. there has to be a weakness to that style of play.

if you didn't notice bc's oline dominated our dline much of the game. thier hb didnt really do anything but had over 100 yards. our pass rush was much better though (than our run dline).

With a new QB, you're going to have some false starts just becuase the timing of the OLine is off synch with the QB.

I was more impressed with Evans than Stone. He's not a world beater, but at least he went through a few progressions and seemed calm. On 3 step drops, he did it correctly.... one, two, three, throw. Marcus would take 3 steps and hold the ball....eventually getting sacked or having the timing so off he missed his receiver.

I still think NC State is a QB away from being a very competitive team. Evans isn't the answer (yet?), but if we can find any type of QB production and the QB doesn't make mistakes, we'll be a very solid team.

I think it's a blip, but hopefully Evans' confidence will carry over and keep growing to where NC State can break 200 passing yards consistently

Anyone else notice Evans step up in the pocket away from pressure several times and complete a pass? I liked that.

That too. Stone would have just taken off or covered the ball to take the sack.

It's fair to say that Evans was more calm and had a better pocket presence

I would guess blip, but I really badly want it to be a corner.

Then again, I reserve all judgement on this team til after Lathan comes back.

Having AJ back made a huge difference on the defense, which while they still sucked hard, they looked better than the last two games.

^^yeah, and he didnt throw a bizillion momentum killing interceptions

^gotta remember we held the leading pasing offense in the ACC to half their average through the air though.

The passing defense was the part that got the improvement without a doubt, I'm still not sure why they didn't run on every single down though.

It's hard to say. BC is definitely the best team we've played so far.

I think the defense is the most encouraging thing to take out of this game. They got raped by Southern Miss and Akron moved the ball pretty well at times also. BC has a good offense and we did a pretty good job against them.

If the defense can keep it up and Evans can continue to improve...then we might be able to salvage a decent season. But I wouldn't put money on it.

AJ got absolutley torched on two third and longs on the same drive that I believe resulted in that Toal TD, not saying anything about his play overall, but having AJ back isn't like getting an antrel rolle or michael huff back

the defense is still having a hard time against the running game

i think we have turned the corner. i dont think they we are suddenly going to be an awesome team, but under evans we are able to have a productive offense

Tank eerily reminded me of McCargo.

There were certain times that I thought the handoff was to Tank Tyler.

Where was brooks at all game?

Also, a lot of the incompletions were into single coverage, which is a very nice change. Even the interception looked like Hill fucked up the route.

The only real problem that was evident with Evans was throwing those low passes that got knocked down at the line.
