Does anyone on here make it, or know where to purchase this? I would attempt to make it, but I am not the greatest in the kitchen, and rather pay. 9/24/2006 5:19:16 PM |

making it isn't that difficult, however, I would suggest purchasing it. (a LOT easier!)
You can get it at Michaels or AC Moore in the cake decorating aisle.
if you haven't used it before, make sure you roll it very thin, it will lay on the cake a lot better (assuming you are using for cake) 9/24/2006 5:26:50 PM |

All I know about fondant is this:
The woman who made my wedding cake explained that she buys the fondant already made. She's an awesome cake maker, so I assume she buys rather than makes it herself for a good reason. She also says that it tastes horrible and most people just peel it off of the cake and throw it away. Needless to say, we didn't use fondant. 9/24/2006 5:28:32 PM |

Awesome thanks for the responses. Ya I just want to make a fondant bow to sit on top a birthday cake. The cake will be normal icing. 9/24/2006 5:43:08 PM |

....well, true.....it's not that difficult
...as long as you have a marble slab and a pair of steel scrapers
....not to mention having some glucose in your pantry
....and even then, it's not hard to burn yourself badly trying to "knead" the crystals...
Definitely buy it premade.
You don't really want [european] fondant for that, ....you need basic sugarpaste (a.k.a. rolled fondant or pastillage)
or try marzipan.
