So, all the programs I have used have found the same ~10 trojans on my computer. I've tried quarentining them, I've tried deleting them, all in safe mode, but they're always back in a couple minutes intermittently freezing my computer for 5 minutes at a time. I'm not sure what else I can do. I don't even have to original software anymore for the operating system, so I guess that means I can't reformat and reinstall without buying another one?

Any advice on either front?

did you disable system restore and clear out your temp internet files before scanning?

use internet based scanners like bitdefender and trendmicros housecall

the BEST option though it to put the hard drive into another computer, and use that PC to do all the scanning.

Few options:

1) Take your hard drive to another person (as synapse mentioned) so they can hook it up to their computer and clean it out. This isn't guaranteed to work, as the trojans could load ONLY when the OS loads and may not be resident on the hard drive.

2) Download a program called Magical Jellybean. Get your Windows Product Key. Find somebody with a Windows OS disk. Format + Reinstall.

3) Pay somebody on TWW $20/hr to fix this.

Hay guys.

I found this disk for another computer, "Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Including Service Pack 1". But it's a for a Dell computer, and specifies to "only use this CD to reinstall the operating system on a Dell." Do you think it would still work for reinstalling on a non-Dell?

e.g., flash ROM for BIOS and peripheral firmware, although I don't believe such viruses are particularly common

but also I'm not entirely sure that's what Perlith was getting at

Yeah, I'm not sure I know anyone that would be willing to take the time to disassemble my computer and theirs to do all that shit. I'm not tech-savy enough myself. I'm not even sure if this computer would be worth buying a new operating system package for. In the year 2000.... I guess it's time to trade up.
