"North Carolina’s 52-7 loss at Clemson this past weekend again revealed just how bad this once-proud program has become.

In season number six running his alma mater’s program, coach John Bunting’s overall record is now 25-39, including 16-26 in ACC play. With the loss at Clemson, the Tar Heels have lost by at least 30 points 12 times in Bunting’s 64 games as a head coach. That’s an average of a 30-plus point loss every 5.3 games Carolina’s played under Bunting.

The following is a look at how UNC’s futility under Bunting stacks up against the rest of the ACC teams in the league’s history. Later in the blog you’ll find some interesting information about Carolina’s record in road games outside of its home state and its two most recent wins over I-AA schools.

UNC’s 30+ Point Losses Under John Bunting

2006 – Clemson 52, UNC 7

2005 – Louisville 69, UNC 14

2004 – Virginia 56, UNC 24

2004 – Louisville 34, at UNC 0

2004 – Utah 46, UNC 16

2003 – Florida State 37, at UNC 0

2003 – Maryland 59, UNC 21

2002 – Texas 52, at UNC 21

2002 – Wake Forest 31, UNC 0

2002 – Maryland 59, at UNC 7

2002 – Clemson 42, at UNC 12

2001 – Texas 44, UNC 14

Totals = 12 losses by at least 30 points in the last five-plus seasons.

The number of times the rest of the current ACC teams have lost by at least 30 points since Bunting took over at Carolina:

Duke – 16

Clemson – 4

Georgia Tech – 3

Virginia – 3

Wake Forest – 3

Maryland – 3

Florida State – 1

Virginia Tech – 1

Miami – 1

Boston College – 1

N.C. State – 0"

# of times UNC or NCSU has beaten a top five team in the last two years: 1

Hence, Bunting's bread.

Lutz that is very true.......

How do you lose to Akron and get killed by Southern Miss and then beat BC....

That's how, just like you said.

it would be awesome but I am thinking 2-2 (1-0) is a helluva lot better than 1-3 (0-1).

The rankings and all that trash are nice but who cares. Its the conference wins that matter the most.........
