I'd like to install some gutters on my workshop to keep water from splashing up at the foundation. There are plenty of articles on the internet about installing them, but very few really cover the planning phase.

Would it be wrong if I did gutters on all four sides with only one spout on the back right corner of the shop? The back right corner is the lowest part of the yard and I have already created a nice slope away from the workshop.

The right side is really the only problem area, so I might just put in a single gutter on that side that exits at the back right corner of the shop, but I thought it might not hurt to do all four sides if I can.

n/m. I was thinking about it this morning and I realized that what I wanted to do was impossible unless it had a hip roof. Durrrr.

what sort of roof do you have on your shed? You're right though, it would be ridiculous to put gutters on 4 sides of anything other than a hip-roof

It's just a normal gable roof. The left side is fine and the right side is having trouble with water splashing up on the building at the foundation. I've got some rotten boards I'll have to cut out, but no major damage.

It has great drainage on the back of the building thanks to some work that I did digging it out, building a slope away from the building, and putting down a trench of weed stop fabric and pea gravel.

I guess I'll just put a gutter on both sides draining towards the back of the building.

It should be an easy job...Just one straight ~12ft section of gutter per side and a drain pipe, but if anyone has any practical recommendations as far as what to buy or pitfalls to look out for I'll be glad to listen. I'm planning to do this tomorrow.

just some generic advice since I haven't seen your shop.

But.

Make sure the gutter extends past the roofline and not just the roof boards.. I missed this one and I get a slight drizzle of rain off the roof that doesn't make it into the gutters. I know how to fix it I just haven't had the chance.

Any trees around? If so go ahead and get the leaf guards. I got the white solid plastic ones at Lowes and they work great.

Also plan your slope from start to the downspout. I *think* it's 1 inch for every 16 feet..
