lets say you have 2 hard drives, c and e. lets say c was the old one and ya got a new one e to use as a primary. lets say win98 is on c and win2000 is on e. lets say you want to run a program that needs win 98, is it possible to run it from c and not the primary drive?

you can install a program to whatever drive you want

if you are asking if you can a program that requires a certain os while operating another os then no

so even though 98 is on one, if 2000 is on the other it wont work?

im not sure what you are asking
you can have different operating systems on different hard drives, but you are only booting into one at a time

if the program you need wont work with the operating system you are using it wont work

right, so if win98 is on C drive and i install the progrma there, can i run it from there using win98 even though my main E drive is win2000

Wow. This is overly complicated. You can do a dual boot system. You have to boot to 98 to run the 98 program and you have to boot to 2000 for your everyday stuff. You can't boot to 2000 and run the 98 program because it happens to installed on the same disk/partition as the 98 OS though - but you probably knew that.

XP has a computability mode where you can supposedly run the stuff as if it was on a previous OS but I don't know what kind of track record that has because I've never needed it.
