i've got a 2 GB SD card. I can take pictures with my camera but cant open them on my PC. when I insert the card into the computer, instead of opening it, it simply gives me the option to format the disk. I have formated the memory card using the camera. when i try to format it on my computer i get an error message saying "unable to complete the format".

First try connecting the camera to the computer via USB cable and trying reading the card from camera that way. If that works then that's fine, though it's recommended that you use a card reader. Sounds like the card reader built into your computer is having issues with that particular brand/model/size SD card. Go buy some cheap generic USB 2.0 multiformat card-reader online for ~$10 shipped. They're all over the place.

yeah, that ended up working for me, i nabbed one from tiger direct for $12. the internal reader on my notebook was showing the capacity @ 956MB when its a 2 gig card, apparently its a common issue, go figure.
