thats like asking which car is faster, the 3 cyl. pinto or the 6 cyl. suburu wrx



now an argument could be made in favor of a 3.X GHz single processor vs 1.6GHz core duo for people who use processor intensive applications...but then the difference is only 260MHz the dual core if the clear winner.

this is true

i know for running serious chess programs that can take advantage of multiprocessors will do much better that a single processor with relatively the same speed - obviously, they split the calculations in half and are more efficient at returning output. also, it depends on what processor you are using ie, pentiums and amds - for chess engines amd and centrino are better since they calculate integers better.
