i bet the next one they put in independent suspension and call it : LOL

seriously though it looks like a solid rig... i'll miss the 4.0 and i'll never trust a mercedes manual transmission (cause how many cars do they offer w/ a manual) but 4.0 to 1 transfercase 5.5" wider
and some other mods are very very very nice (harmon kardon sat-nav/mp3 player like whoa)

But how many trucks do they make? In general I would go with MB over some Chrysler.

huh? they have and still do offer alot. more than any american company. just because the pussys on this side of the pond prefer autos doesn't mean they're not offered/made. i'd trust a piece of modern german engineering a hell of alot more than the previous jeep manual offerings (sans possibley the nv3550).

actually, a cherokee of your vintage has alot of direct chrysler characteristics than earlier xj's. granted, mainly in trim and other misc. smaller parts though.

most people don't realize what a large hand chrysler had in amc's decisions, designs, etc. even before the "official" buyout.

The new jeeps kind of bug me. It looks like the only jeep that's stout enough for offroad use is the wrangler these days. The new patriot/compass are just mom wagons. The liberty looks like it breaks easier than any cherokee would've (so it's a mom wagon that can go over curbs without losing grip), and the new grand cherokees just look too damn nice to take off road. The commander looks like a cherokee on steroids, but it's also a bit nice to take off road (unless you've got the money for it of course).

Hopefully the new MB/Chrysler engines being put into the new jeeps are going to be as tough as the inline 6.

And hopefully jeep will bring back solid axles without independent rear suspension. I guess I want them to make cherokees again (though maybe with updated body styling).
