8 ACC teams out of 12 being ranked or mentioned in the AP poll... it's a down year, but it's not that down.

OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES
Florida State 74, Wisconsin 58, Penn State 27, Pittsburgh 21, Washington 13, Texas A&M 11, Miami (FL) 8, Texas Tech 7, UCLA 6, Brigham Young 5, Wake Forest 3, North Carolina State 3, South Carolina 3.
DROPPED FROM RANKINGS
Florida State 16, Texas Tech 24.

BC got back into their Top 25, USC is oddly ranked higher than Florida, and Arkansas is MUCH more appropraitely ranked. #17 for beating an Auburn team that nearly lost to South Carolina is a bit strong IMO.

Kinda odd to see NCSU & Wake getting the same amount of votes...this weekend's game might not be HUGE if we win, but it's a real killer should we lose.

^ This is the 1st time since 1982 that both FSU & Miami were out of the top 25. That was the year before Miami won it all.

I guess Carolina sucks so much that a team must now win by 40+ in order to gain spots in the polls.

i think its a possibility if we don't lose again. if we are 7-2 with wins over 3 ranked teams (assuming the GT is still ranked and we beat them), i think that would warrant a top 25 ranking. due to our losses, i dont think we would crack the top 20, but i could see us 20-25.

eh, im not so sure about that. the only teams that are ranked right now with 2 losses are ones that were ranked high and have lost since then. despite wakes record, i dont think a victory over them would be enough to bump us up a whole lot.

it will be hard moving up 8 slots IF we win this week
we better hope for some upsets in the lower half and a win for us if we expect to be a top 25 team

Why is USC ranked so high?

Do people think that the 2004 team is still out there?

^ Halo effect, of sorts

The coolest thing is that we're saying things like "we might be in the top 25 next week..."

Seriously 3 weeks ago we were like "when's basketball season?"

^^Yes, they do. Similar to the constant ND overhype.

But we will need to beat Wake & then Maryland to get ranked. If Wake had beaten Clemson it would be different, but voters are going to want to see us win on the road before giving us props.

Wake will be tough to beat. Even in their loss they looked decent--they were executing plays really well. Clemson just had too much firepower. Two of Clemson's RBs were 100 meter champions in Florida.

If we do beat Wake, we might creep into the rankings. It will be tough though. Penn St, BC, FSU, and Miami are all on the fringe, and the teams i see falling out completely incase they lose next week are Boise St, Rutgers, Ok and Wisc (Ok usually bounces back, and Wisc always play tough).

I don't give a damn about rankings. I just want to see if we can handle a WFU team that has given us fits for years.

And I can only wonder when our honeymoon will come to an end (and you know it's coming).

That loss to Akron is huge. 4-1, 2-0 looks a helluva lot nicer than 3-2, 2-0.

Honestly I'd rather us just be unranked without any expectations. We never live up to expectations. All of this hype over Evans just means he'll probably shit the bed soon.

how long since this has happened:

Quote :
"Florida State 30, Miami (FL) 17, Virginia Tech 6"

all 3 of them not being in the polls...

its also interesting that there's a couple possbilities for another #1 vs. #2 game during the regular season. the obvious choice is ohio state vs. michigan but if the top 4 teams slip, it might be possible for west virginia vs. louisville at the end of the year be #1 vs. #2...

Pttyndal:

Quote :
"Jeff in C-Bus - Early in the show on November 18, 2005, on his way to the Michigan vs. Ohio State football game, Jeff (a former Smack-Off contestant) envisioned that Ohio State would win by a score of 27-27. This was believed to be a slip of the tongue, but Jeff (and Ohio State) became the butt of numerous jokes throughout the rest of that day's show. The Buckeyes got the last laugh, however, winning 25-21. The following Monday, Jeff called back and claimed that he purposely made the strange call to draw attention away from the game itself, luring the Clones to smack him instead of Ohio State. Despite this, Jeff is still ridiculed.

So after Miami shows that they are better fighters than football players, the receive more votes (17 vs. 13)

Seems kinda fucked up to leave someone like them even contending for a top 25 spot
