gunbroker.com gunsamerica.com Gun shows
The personal defense and handgun safety center is seriously lacking in customer service in my opinion and they charge an arm and a leg to rent/shoot on their range. I would probably never buy there unless they had a price on something that was far and away better than anything else. 10/9/2006 10:54:08 AM |

jlphipps,
Do you work at Davis? Last time I was at PDHSC it cost me about $12 to shot for about 2 hours. If you bring your own gun and ammo. If you rent, it believe it was between $5-8 for most handguns. I believe that Davis charges you by the half hour for their range, but I have no clue what their rental costs are. When it comes to used guns, all of their prices can be negotiated. Nothing is set in stone. Just talk to Mike and he can help you out if you had a specific gun in mind. If it is on consignment, make a lower offer! They will call the seller on the spot and make him the offer. Thats how I got my AK-47. 10/9/2006 11:17:57 AM |

^^ No, I don't work there. I don't much care for Davi's either, to tell you the truth. Never shot at either, but the people I know who have shot at PDHSC have reported being raped in the ass by the prices. When I was in there, I just didn't feel even remotely comfortable with the atmosphere/employees.
I don't care much for Davi's either. Their prices on firearms were quite high and they charge an arm and a leg for consignments. The employees there were at least a little more freindly. Well, actually, I take that back. The employees behind the firearms counter were nice, but there was a woman at the checkout when I was there once who was so rude to me I almost cried. She was a total bitch. Not Heather, she's cool, but the african american woman there. >_< It makes me upset just thinking about it. Ugh.
These are just my opinons on these businesses. You are entitled to your own opinions. 10/9/2006 11:39:00 AM |

civilians may shop at lawmans
you are an idiot to do so however
they are the most elitest bunch of assholes in the industry to non LEO customers
if you do go in, just make sure to talk to either a female or some of the older guys that work there....they have one guy there, who i assume to be closely related to the owners (mayhaps) that is 100% douchebag asshole, he knows everything and is completely unwilling to work with you on prices, deals, orders, etc 10/9/2006 12:49:24 PM |

PDHSC's pricing isn't awful. $15 for a lane (although it is "all day"...they get cranky if you just camp out when it's busy, though), $5 for rentals, ammo is on the spendy side of reasonable. They do rape you on ear and eye protection, but if you're shooting often enough for it to matter, you should probably have your own anyway.
As a gun shop, though, it's top notch. Not a big selection, but they'll order anything (you just have to pay first), and they actually have milsurps on a regular basis. 10/9/2006 1:07:25 PM |

Do do you have a specific firearm in mind that you want to buy? Handgun, rifle, shotgun....? i did buy a gun off of gunbroker.com (P22) and am very happy with it. I have bought at Davis as well (glock and kimber)..I hated the same checkout lady as you! She was more than a bitch, but this was when they were in their old location. I bought another at PDHSC (AK), so I have been around the block. I just kept shopping and looking for deals. gunbroker was good, but you need to pay a transfer charge before getting the gun. I just went with the place that could give me the best prices at the time. Just take your time and know your price. I saves about 60 bucks on my P22, but I had to wait 3 months to find it at the price i wanted. 10/9/2006 1:37:07 PM |

I'm looking for a used 9mm for beginners. I've shot my cousins glock 26, I like it, its not too much gun for me. Although I don't have anything to compare it too. 10/9/2006 1:42:29 PM |

Well, they certainly have Glocks.
Have you also looked at XDs? 10/9/2006 2:09:41 PM |

are those the compact or subcompact models? 10/9/2006 3:32:07 PM |
Stiletto All American 2928 Posts user info edit post |
Oh yeah.
The 26 is the subcompact model.
If you want a more general purpose plinking gun, consider the 19 or 17. 19's the "compact" frame, a lot of people do OK with those as carry pieces too. 10/9/2006 3:50:00 PM |

The glock 22 is a full size .40
Ask around on TWW. I am sure people will be glad to take out you if you pay for yourself to help save $ on renting guns. I have a Glock 22, .45 Kimber, and a Walther P22. I can also get my bro's XD9 if you want to shoot that as well. I like my Glock and P22 but LOVE my Kimber! I might get an XD before I would get another glock. Glocks are great starting guns. Easy to break down, clean and own. They are just not the best on the range (groupings aren't so good). But you can rest assured that your glock with ALWAYS fire when you need it to.
PM me if you get serious about the range. 10/9/2006 3:50:46 PM |

you might be the first person on the planet to ever say that about Davi's. that's the #1 reason people hate that place.

yeah, you just can't buy badges and light bars, etc, unless you're an LEO.
i bought a SIG P226 there for $250 (talked them down from $300, i think) once...sold it for $100 profit a couple of years later. They didn't give me any attitude (of course, being a Marine might've helped)

Yep, I'm pretty sure they'll order you anything you want for 10% over their cost.
and glocks are good as a moderately priced, real-world handgun for the beginner...but I have no interest in taking one to the range. i can't stand anything that isn't single-action (or DA/SA)10/10/2006 6:20:38 PM |

I'll never go back to Davi's. I've had shitty service every time i've been there. Not to mention their prices are seriously a rip off. My buddy bought the same Glock at PDHSC for almost $100 cheaper (brand new)
Also, the guys at PDHSC are very very friendly and helpful. There have been many times where we have just gone in there to get some information about guns or ammo and they were extremely helpful and courteous.
Davi's always acts like a bunch of jerks. 10/10/2006 6:35:42 PM |

i've never had a problem at lawman's. they all seem really nice, and helpful. the guys up there will pick around and carry on with you as long as your not an asshole. i also like pd&hsc. the only thing is neither place has a changing selection, they almost always have the same type of stuff.10/10/2006 8:49:51 PM |
