You really need to analyze what you're gonna need the truck for, towing, hauling, dickin around, keeping it for 10 yrs or you just want a truck to have a truck. Packages, beds, engines, etc. Personally I'd go for the tundra if I kept to on road conditions and not much hauling since it costs too dam much to fuck up. I'd take the silverado more for utility purposes and off road.

tundras are pretty fast and still get good gasmileage i was... really impressed with the one i rode in.. but i didn't drive it.
all the chevys i've ever been in have been lifted thus numbing the driving experience.

If I could get a Tundra extended cab with the V6, then I might choose it. But I think you can't get anything but the regular cab with the V6. Or can you even get the V6 anymore?

If I needed more power, then I'd opt for diesel, and then Silverado is the only choice out of the two; otherwise a six works fine with me. And I really like Yota's V6 (though it is one fuckload more money to replace over Chevy's).

But on the other hand, I can work on that Chevy in my sleep.

^yeah a coworker has one. it's nice and fast. we were next to a lil short cab v8 f150 new one and he was going all out racing us squealin tires etc. while the guy in the titan was going normal, and we still beat the f150

The '03 chevy 2500 I drive for work is shit. Plush and fast though.

For any real work I try to always drive the F-250. No frills, but it's tough as damn shoeleather and I like the steering/pedal feel it has.

i went with the silverado 2500 CC with the Duramax.... toyota's interiors are uncomfortable for long trips and felt cheap... that and I needed/wanted the diesel and chevy's got the best one on the market right now..

i'd still prolly go with the silverado if comparing 1500 to tundra... get the MAX edition with the 6.0L

I'm really starting to think Chevrolet all over again. I had been thinking about going Toyota but since GM has started doing all kinds of good financing and I think the 2007s are coming with 5 year 100k warranties. It's starting to become a no brainer

AHAHA put the crack pipe down. chevy has the WORST on the market right now, as they always have. i mean, it's somewhat debateable on the powerstroke vs. dmax, but dmax vs. cummins isn't even a issue.

Duramax is better than the 6.0 'Stroke, but it doesn't even rate with the Cummins.

damn. the shit i've been reading says the duramax/allison combo is the best/most reliable there is. don't get me wrong, i love the cummins but i've always been under the impression the trannys were shit. also remember that half the fire dept. drives diesels and out of everyone i've talked to, the powerstrokes are in the shop the most and the cummins guys have had multiple tranny issues so that kinda backs what i've read.

but back to topic, if you are not looking for a heavy duty truck and considering a 1500 vs. tundra, i'd go with the tundra. first off, that back window that slides down is the shit. a buddy has an '06 crew cab and i love the way it drives and comfort level. granted, it is a 7/8 scale truck and not considered a full-size, but it is perfect for someone who needs a truck without the truck-style ride. plus, i would think you'd have less trouble from a tundra than a chevy.

I bought a 2004 Tundra this summer and wouldnt trade it for the world. yea the V8 guzzles gas, I got over it. most come with JBL components in the audio department, and music controls on the steering wheel. the rear sliding window is a big plus and there is a very spacious interior (I bought the double cab). overall I think its a great truck.

I've got a silverado 3500 with the duramax diesel (dump bed)... it's quick and I've hauled 6 pallets of solid cement block and the biggest skid steer (~12,000lbs) bobcat makes with it all at the same time and it pulled it fine...Stopping wasn't easy but power wise it didn't really have any trouble. Guess it really depends on what you're going to use it for... Can't really beat chevy for an all out work truck though.

I have no experience with the Toyota, but I drove a 04 Silverado 1500 for work and it had a bunch of problems after just 4000 miles of light shit-hauling abuse. I wasn't impressed. On the other hand, my father has a 99 Ram 2500 w/ the 24valve Cummins mated with the 5-sp. Other then normal wear and tear (ball joints, shocks, steering components) it has gone 210k without any problems. (He has a mile of dirt switchbacks that raises a 1000ft to drive everyday which I associate with the reason for suspension and steering wear). He has had it chipped with the Edge stage one for 130k and it averages 22mpg according to the computer. Comfort wise, the leather is comfortable and has held up with no tears except the leather wrapped steering wheel, witch started getting crumbly.

i've got a kodiak 7500 w/ cat diesel and air brakes, air suspension eaton fuller 10speed and of course 5th wheel trailer and I've hauled all kinds of stuff like 12 pallets of sod and maybe 10 or so pavers and usually 2 or 3 bobcats (CAT acutally) and I have to say get the silverado or the tundra. if your looking for a work truck I'd go find a ford though in all honesty. they last forever and have fewer rust problems later in life than their bowtie conterparts. Now for around town stuff the tundra is nice because the bed is lower and you can reach in better than say the f150s (dumbest thing ever making side so high on a pickup) Chevy has the best interiors.

oh and ScHpEnXeL just picking on you but seriously don't do that again hauling wise, people get killed or worse yet kill people doing stuff like that.

You'll need that warranty. Ours was in the shop constantly until the warranty ran out, now we just live with it. (airbag sensors, ECU, windows that won't stay in the track, etc etc)

We pull a bobcat with our 2500, but the transmission's already started moaning ominously at 80,000 miles. A couple of times it's actually refused to go up some mild grades. So for now we're just topping off the fluid and waiting for it explode.

To contrast, the '99 F-250 pulled the same equipment up until last year with nothing but routine maintenance. Still using it daily though with over 220,000 miles on it.

Most mechanics I talk to tell me to avoid dodges, but I've never owned one.

plus solid axle versus IFS and a front AAM thats every bit as strong as a dana 60

i'll take the engine/tranny combo in the GM right now over any of the others, the cummins motors are nice but I have never liked them. I would not own a powerchoke for all the tea in china, I have driven many and none have anywhere near the power/torque of the duramax... and I'm a lifelong chevy man. The duramax/allison combo is impossible to beat with what's on the market right now. That and I just don't like the interior or exterior of the dodges... so that was never much of an option.

where have you been reading?? the 1st gen. duramax was terrible for reliability, and the 2nd gen. has been marginally better. namely, widespread injector failure issues. which required major surgery on the 1st gen. not much better on the 2nd gen. a number of rotating assembly issues in the mix also.

sure, allison makes some BAD ASS drivetrain assemblys. unfortunately, their offering to gm is sub par considering their reputation. everyone buys into the name. gg's all around to the gm marketing dept.

well, good for you. that kind of brand loyalty gayness doesn't exactly apply in the diesel debate though. obviously this has clouded your judgement to see the durumax/allison for what it's worth. granted, in the scheme of things it's a pretty damn good motor/trans in a light duty truck. certainly a large improvement over the previous detroit offerings gm implemented.

again, it's comparable to the latest powerstroke. still very lacking compared to the cummins.

actually meant to say lifelong ford man... that was a typing error.. I've got the 3rd gen LBZ which is a marked improvment over the LLY and LB7

as for comparable to the latest powerstroke, i've driven them all and i'd take a 7.3 anyday over the 6.0. but i'd take the chevy D/A over either of them.

Haven't heard much as far as what the new stroke with the TT will be like, but like I said before, cummins makes a damn fine engine, but the tranny behind it is garbage and I cannot stand anything about the dodge fit/finish or the styling. I did a bunch of research before I bought my truck and yeah my dislike of dodge pretty much eliminated them from the get go, but I gave them a shot just to make sure, drove all 3 offerings in the same trim (4x4, CC, Lariat/LT3/Laramie) and with their respective diesel and automatic trannies... the chevy had the most torque and horsepower of any of them, it also had the 6 speed automatic vs. a 4 speed.

I'd take an older non-computer controlled cummins any day if it wasn't in a dodge, just don't like the trucks, mostly the appearance and interiors as i've said before.

for what i was looking for the chevy fit the bill.

now give me a detroit/allison combo and shoehorn it into a light/medium truck chassis... hell yeah

it's all in good spirit and debate, and we all have our opinions, just sharing mine!

i too prefer the 7.3 (what i have). 5 speed auto is pretty slick with the 6.0 though.

above average transmission problems only occured in 94-02 trucks. mostly 94-99. even at that, the transmissions just got a bad reputation due to owner negligance. if they have fresh fluid regularly and are kept cool, they're actually pretty decent autos. just picky about maintinance. the current offerings are on par with gm/ford.

not an issue in the real world. where the numbers come in the powerband is. i've seen other trucks outperform duramaxes in various towing situations consistantly.

you can probably safely assume all of the new motors will have roughly the same power output as they do now, until all of the new technology is ironed out.
