I know its reality but I think this should give our football team even more motivation to succeed on Saturday and for the rest of the season.

Saturday is HUGE.

3-0 in the ACC with MD, UVa, GT, Clemson and UNC would be great.

with our remaining schedule, we have a great chance of going bowling.

with that in mind, there is no way the ACC gets 8 bowl teams (adding NC State to their "bowl bound" teams). somebody is going to get left out.

Wake forest will be in a bowl.

They only have to win like 2 more games.

I don't know where to put this so I'll just chuck it right here....

My hopes / predictions for the remainder of the season:

-keep the house rockin at CF and we can beat Wake after a brutal week they just had. (+ we had 2 extra days of rest) 4-2 record

-utterly waste a sorry Maryland for a 5-2 record

-virginia can be managed easily if our heads aren't in the clouds ... 6-2

-we always figure out a way to beat GT when they are having a good year +@home with ready crowd... 7-2

-maybe just maybe we can clean up death valley. would take a miracle 8-2 or 7-3

-lets assume the worst going into this game: A loss here puts AMATO back on the hot seat. I don't care, an NCSU coach needs to learn how to beat UNC (Cc: Sidney Lowe) I don't know if it's just pure statistics/ karma/ football gods will or something, but I think we are due for a win vs. UNC. they suck, but they have sucked for the last 4 years as well. this game will ultimately decide how I remember this season overall. A UNC victory is a meat and potatoes victory no matter how good or bad they/we are. FSU and BC wins are like side dishes or dessert. ... 9-2 or 8-3

-ECU. this is a must win. if we win, then we win and go to a decent bowl. if we lose though... that means we just repeated another ACORN or SMU and haven't learned a thing and the entire coaching staff will be held responsible. a loss here means we probably never deserved a bowl and just got lucky a few times. but a good solid win could send us to at least the peach bowl.

amato would be nowhere near the hotseat with an 9-3 rebuilding year.

[Edited on October 12, 2006 at 4:08 AM. Reason : that would = his best year are you on crack i dont care if we lose to uncle chapel hill]

until we can prove that we can beat the teams we are supposed to beat, then i agree that we shouldn't be picked to go to a bowl game.

The biggest problem with your entire statement is that the two worst teams on it are somehow a litmus test for our success in a season.

^^^ not really if you think about it.

we rarely play poorly against good teams. Its the teams we should handle 'easily' that we under-achieve against and lose most of the time.

If we fix that by handling our business like we should, it would show good progress by the coaching staff during a 'rebuilding' year.

I hope people don't think that if we lose to Wake we are just "playing down to our competition" and "not winning the games we should win easliy."

Just food for thought....

Clemson looked very beatable in the first three quarters of the Wake forest game. The only reason they were able to come back so quickly is that their athletes are that much better than Wake's.

Our athletes are more on par with Clemson, and I think it will be a closer game than yall think. FSU only lost by 7 to Clemson, and we beat FSU by 4, so we are up there and can play with them... Don't count us out.

GT.... Just like last year, the defense will have to have a good game. I think GT is better than Clemson, they are still undefeated in the ACC and have alot of momentum ( Not to mention their only loss over all is to number 2 at the time Notre Dame)

Those are the only two games we should have any trouble with. MD, UVA, and UNC are not so hot this year, but even MD hung with GT for a while....

We will come out of this year ok... Our team will be ready for the upcomming games, Chuck will make sure of that.

Hahah we NEVER beat Tech. Last year was the exception. It was our first win in Atlanta since like 1983 or something. Chuck has only beat Tech twice.

Wake is NOT going to a bowl. The rest of their schedule: @NCSU, @UNC, BC, @FSU, VT, @MD

Here's the rest of the schedule:
Wake - If The Pack are for real, they win this game. I don't care how wonderful it is to see Wake playing well, at home you have to take care of business. They lose and it's a huge letdown after the big wins the last two weeks. The D has to step up and at least slow Wake down enough to let Evans and company have a shot. This could be a shootout, and any mistakes/turnovers will be critical.

Maryland - It's an away game against a team with a penchant for getting the bounces to go their way (against us). This is also a team whose only losses are against GT and West Virginia. Somehow I doubt they're as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Once again, this is a statement game for the Pack. Win and they're in contention, lose and they're exposed.

Virginia - Lose and you can put Amato back on the hotseat. Virginia should be crushed. This team lost to ECU. Take it to the bank or go home.

Georgia Tech - The second toughest remaining game on the schedule. Tech lost 14-7 to ND, and since then has become steadily more favored to win the ACC after 5 wins. We're fortunate to play these guys at home. Momentum will be critical in this game. If the pack can find a way through the Tech Defense and avoid turning the ball over they got a great shot to pull the upset.

Clemson - Tough as it gets, playing on the road with perhaps a trip to the ACC Championship on the line. If we've survived the last three games with one loss or none, this game could very well decide the fate of the Atlantic Division. Win and we own the tiebreakers over the rest of the contenders (Clemson, Wake, BC, FSU). Lose and its just another decent season and Amato likely keeps his job... that is if....

... we beat UNC, which blows goats, now figuratively as well as literally. Lose and I might just call for Amato's head on the spot. I want to see Clemson Vs. UNC II: The Search for a Bigger Ass Kicking.

ECU - They still have a team? Another game where Amato should get canned for losing or even a close game.

My prediction is we go 5-2. I'll leave it to the Pack to surprise me by doing better

The biggest problem in the GT game will be the secondary.

All the media slobbing over AJ Davis aside, I don't know that we have a corner this year that's capable of really containing Calvin. Hudson managed it...I don't know if Davis or Sutton can.

Plus it's difficult to put the hurt on Ball because he's pretty good at evading the blitz. We overshot him tons of times last year and ended up giving up plays.

u know, u cant really consider ECU a pushover...

they really have looked decent in their games.
They took West Virginia into the 4th Quarter, and beat a bad UVA team last week.

Factor in them wanting to beat their "rival", and its definitley not an easy W

NCSU has upsets against BC and FSU.

NCSU has also lost to Akron and So. Miss.

The losses are neutralized by the wins, and vice versa.

NCSU needs to "run the gamut" with the ACC in order to ordain some legibility. Sorry, but those two losses are huge.

^^True, it was more of a stab at ECU than anything else. Still, they're only wins are against UVA and Memphis. UAB and Navy have good records, but they aren't playing stellar competition either, so those losses can't be explained away.

No offense to West Virginia, but their toughest game so far was against MARYLAND. I'm not making any decisions on that yet just yet...

^ I agree. We've seen two entirely differnet Pack teams play this year. One lost 2 of 3 and the other played two very solid games in beating ranked opponents. The next few weeks should demonstrate just how good the Evans' led Pack really is...

Reggie Ball has quite possibly been the most inconsistent player in the ACC. He can be tough to stop...and he can stop himself.

Exactly. Some days he looks like a Heisman candidate...some days he looks like crap. You can never tell which one will show up.

But something tells me GT is going to bring their best, after our win last year in ATL.

1. Although I do think that those are big losses, and will keep us out of the rankings unless we win most of the rest of our games, I think most of the media knows that we are a different team with Evans.

2. I hope you mean legitimacy.

Wake Forest is a legit team (well at least for an ACC team). If we don't come to play we will lose.
