So my car horn stopped working a few months ago. I brought it to two different shops, who both said that mine was one of the 1% of horns located near the airbag and they won't touch it for liability reasons. I've called the dealership 3 times to ask if they could fix it, and everytime they say they will call me back but don't, and I work an 8-5 so I don't exactly have the time to go down there myself.
So I brought it to Auto Zone to see if I could get one they could rig up, and they dont have anything that bypasses the real horn. They told me to go to Home Depot and buy a wireless doorbell, but the Home Depot guy said that that would never pass a car inspection.
I've delayed getting it inspected because I knew it would fail because of the horn, but it's gotten to the point where if I don't, I'm gonna get fined a hefty sum.
I feel like I've done everything I can, and the car runs fine except for the damn horn. Do you guys know of any place who will pass my car without it, or any other alternatives to fix the horn? 10/14/2006 10:45:05 AM |

buy an aftermarket horn and button, wire it into a circuit that stays hot all the time, and mount the button somewhere on the dash or steering column and the horn somewhere convenient under the hood. I've had vehicles with horns wired up this way before and they work very well. 10/14/2006 4:25:15 PM |

My girlfriend had a mechanic install an aftermarket horn with a button screwed into the front of the steering wheel. It passed every year. 10/15/2006 6:42:59 AM |

Thanks. I brought it to an inspection place hoping they wouldn't blow it, and what do you know, they fixed it in 2 minutes! Remind me never to go to any other shop 10/15/2006 10:16:53 AM |
