For all your fair comments, questions, etc. I didn't see a thread on this anywhere (except some small ones in chit chat, and that doesn't count).
Does anyone know if you have to pay for tickets to ride the CAT bus to the state fair from hillsborough street? I know normally you don't have to pay for the CAT bus, but I wasn't sure... especially on the weekend. 10/14/2006 11:22:55 AM |

I saw that... so I guess for the weekends there isn't much of an option.
And CAT says "All riders will be required to pay the appropriate fare". I remember one year I rode the CAT bus from campus and they told me I didn't have to pay because I was a student. 10/14/2006 1:00:18 PM |

You might try actually reading:
Quote : | "Fare: $3.00 one way, $4.00 round trip." |
Huh. Whaddya know.
That "appropriate fare" means your student ID doesn't exempt you from paying the fare. Okay, so you got a driver once who was feeling generous/wasn't aware of the policy. Don't count on that, though.10/14/2006 5:31:48 PM |

Maybe you should be more aware of the policy before you assume things.
From NCSU's website:
Quote : | "Simply hop on a CAT or TTA bus, flash your University ID and enjoy the ride. Present students, faculty and staff can ride any CAT or TTA route free of charge. All that is required is a valid University ID. " |
However, my freshman year, I remember that even students had to pay to ride the special fair bus.10/14/2006 9:27:31 PM |

The CAT bus is NORMALLY free to students with ID. But for the Fair, EVERYONE pays the fee. I rode it last year, that's how it is. It's really not that bad, for the $4 round trip. 10/14/2006 10:23:13 PM |

I didn't see the Fried Coca Cola.
I also figured out that the wizard game (the one with the spiral where you can't touch the sides and must get it to the bottom) is more rigged than I had though. I thought it was just easier from the other side of the table. I didn't know they had foot pedals to turn off the light/make it never trip the alert. Tricky bastards. And no, I don't play fair games, I sometimes like to watch other people attempt to play them though.
There was plenty of free parking by Carter Finley/RBC center, yet people were still paying $10 to park. Pretty funny. The only bit of trouble I had with the traffic was the blue ridge/trinity intersection. 3 lanes of traffic trying to turn left got really annoying. 10/15/2006 5:34:32 PM |

^^ We paid 10 to park yesterday over by the Vet School at University Club for the game. It was faster to pay the 10 and walk then stay in traffic for 2 hours just to get to "free" parking. Why stress yourself out in traffic. 10/15/2006 6:26:58 PM |

I went today. It looked like the RBC Center was being closed off due to the Eric Clapton show when I was going down Edward Mills. So, I parked behind the Bellsouth building at the corner of trinity/edward mills. I may have something close but I didn't want to be in the horrible traffic any more.
I saw the deep fried coke but didn't want any of it. Looked gross. I had a foot long corndog, frozen cheesecake, and deep fried oreos. I was thinking about getting some ribbon chips too but decided not to. I rode a few things.. Twister, Hang-Ten, Rainbow, and Freak Out. Twister is new. Its by the Ring of Fire and 1000 Nauts. It continuously flips you around but then turns diagonally and flips you. It was fun. I saw another new ride on the other end of the fair. It had 2 ends.. fits 4 people on each end. It was like a big green ride. I couldn't remember what it was called. It looked like a ferris wheel with only 2 cars. Their was no Tango this year.. 10/15/2006 11:05:58 PM |

That woman lives in my neighborhood and found my cat when I lost it.
She also let me use her washing machine once when mine broke.
She also fixed my flat tire and helped me do some roofing.
Her advice at the NC State Fair is only the tip of the iceberg. 10/16/2006 9:21:51 PM |

I went to the fair tonight. I ate way too much! I tried the fried Coke - it's like funnel cake, but they serve it in a cup with whipped cream and a cherry on top. It tasted different than funnel cake, but I didn't really think it tasted like Coke.
The only ride I got on was the ferris wheel. We tried to time it so we could be at the top for the fireworks, but they ended up starting right as we were let off. 10/16/2006 10:48:12 PM |

Quote : | "The only ride I got on was the ferris wheel. We tried to time it so we could be at the top for the fireworks, but they ended up starting right as we were let off. " |
Ditto. And then instead of the 2 or 3 rotations they'd been doing for everyone else, the folks on the wheel when the fireworks started were given the whole time.
The fair was dead tonight. It was sorta sad seeing all the carnies napping in the ride seats, or running a ride for two people.10/16/2006 11:20:50 PM |
