I'm originally from NJ but never gave a damn about them, until now.

Its official, I'm on the bandwago!

Who's rooting for Rutgers besides me?

Because they haven't beaten anybody and only beat UNC by 5...which is horrible.

They'll get beat the fuck down by Louisville and West Virginia and lose their bowl game to any halfway decent team and end the season unranked. Then Miami will hire Schiano and Rutgers will go back to being a shitty football team.

^the UNC game was the first of the year, everyone works out kinks. And they've played a harder schedule so far than most, at least statistically speaking. Not to mention having the top rated defense in the nation.

I'm just saying don't dismiss them so easily, without looking into it.

They haven't played a ranked team yet. They barely beat USF on national television...probably the best team they've played so far. Which makes their "top rated defense in the nation" not look that great either.

Get back to me after Louisville.

22nd in the Nation in scoring -- 31pts per game
107th in passing -- 138yds per game
16th in rushing -- 194yds per game
68th total yards - 340yds per game

@ UNC (21-16)
Illinois (33-0)
Ohio (24-7)
Howard (56-7)
@ USF (22-20)
@ Navy (34-0)

If they make it through the next few weeks, I will be very impressed:
@ Pitt
UConn
Louisville
@ Cincy
Syracuse
@ West Va.

Needless to say, 1st Half of their schedule was cake but the 2nd half will tell a lot.

... And they wouldn't beat us. We have just as many Florida transplants as they do... And ours are better.

I agree. Following them is something for me to do this season, since it appears we (NCSU) won't be getting a lot of media coverage where I live.

That much is true. But if they run the table they are every bit as deserving as any other team to be in it. They won't run the table but if they do they definitely are no joke. There are some good teams they will have to play in the 2nd half.

Apparently NCSU fans haven't paid much attention to Navy since the beatdown in annapolis half a decade ago. Navy has been to three straight bowl games, winning the last two. They were 5-1 going into the rutgers game - Navy QB dislocated his knee in the 1st quarter - team never recovered.

Oh and before you give me some crap about navy, they're going to the car care bowl with one more win...you know, the place NCST played last year?

BTW, nice way to jump on the Rutgers bandwagon six fucking weeks into the season - that's fucking lame. your man card should be revoked.

haha - you're the one who siad they haven't played anyone

why don't you actually read more than the name of a team before you go spouting off at the mouth about how bad a team is - you clearly don't have a clue about rutgers and i'm certain your contributions to this thread are somewhere between worthless and fucking moronic

Navy hasn't played anyone either you dumbfuck.

They haven't played a ranked team and just got their ass beat by Rutgers. They've got BIG wins against Air Force (not as good this year) and....wait....that's it.

Do you know what saragin ratings are? Oh, and they also played Tulsa and lost on a blocked PAT in overtime...yeah, Tulsa that's ranked #25 in the BCS standings. And you mean the USAFA team that lost by 1 to Tenn in Tenn when the coach went for a 2pt conversion and the win instead of tying it up? And is at the top of the MWC? I'm sorry we couldn't have losses to shitty teams so you could reference it to NCST's first two losses of the season (not knocking on the Pack - lord knows I love 'em).

That is crazy. I know the exemption rule and I do like Navy but I think a team like Pittsburgh, who is IMO much better then Navy, will be shut out of a better bowl because of it.

my point is you saying Navy hasn't played anyone and that USAFA isn't good this year is a little wrong

and i'm pretty sure it's the BCS standings that matter the most to people when it comes to bowling - the human polls are but just a part of it

anyway, you're obviously a tille thick headed, so i'll let the comment about state not being good slide...i think what you meant to say was stone isn't good

With the nation's second-leading rusher held in check by Connecticut (3-5), the No. 15 Scarlet Knights (8-0) held off the Huskies 24-13 on Sunday night to remain one of the nation's six undefeated teams.

Why is the Big East doing all this "Sunday Night Football" stuff this year?

not that i'm complaining, i do enjoy having some competition for the NBC showing, but it's just weird and messes with my sense of how football should be...

and does playing on sunday night help or hurt rutgers? none of the pollsters will remember this win next week, and it obviously doesn't help them with this weeks polls...

not if they go unbeaten... if they've seriously stepped up and taken Pitt's place in talent, then an unbeaten BE team is just as deserving as any other (although a better OOC schedule would have helped)

UConn outgained Rutgers in total yards and had a significant advantage in TOP. If not for turnovers (blocked punt was huge), Rutgers might have been handed their first loss last night.

Their games with UL and WVU couldn't get here fast enough. Can we please end this ridiculous BCS talk.

Yeah, they outgained them when Rutgers had a shitty night on offense. UCONN still only got 255 yards of total offense (199 from their RB - only 67 in the air). RU averages giving up 227 yards per game now - still #2 in the country behind LSU. An they're #3 in scoring defense at 9.1 points per game.

the only thing that gave UCONN the yard advantage was a 65 yard run by their RB after he broke three tackles.

Oh yeah, RU also forced three turnovers (one for a TD), blocked a punt (for a TD), and had 8 sacks.

Did you watch the game last night or did you just read the box score? An overrated team would have lost that game. RU won.

I watched bits and pieces. I was mostly watching the Dallas/Carolina game. I saw a pretty mediocre Rutgers team. And let's not forget that UConn was 3-4.

I can play this game too...let's see...

"the only thing that gave RU the advantage in the whole game was a blocked punt for a TD"

or maybe,

"RU might not have won if they didn't force a turnover for a TD"

That was fun....your turn.

yeah, just as I thought - you didn't watch the game. oh, and it would have to be a combo of if RU didn't take a fumble back AND block that kick UCONN might have won

the short of it is this - Rutgers had a shitty night on offense. their team isn't built around their offense anyway - they're something like 67th in yards (but top 25 in scoring). their stud RB had a bad night as UCONN sold out on the run. the QB couldn't hit shit all night

the defense still proved the be dominant force for Rutgers. UCONN went 3-15 on 3rd down and got just 12 first downs. I think the announcers said it best when they stated that past rutgers teams would have found ways to lose this game...instead they found ways to win. it was a trap game with UL up next

edit: ^ you mean the WVU team that hasn't beaten anyone except for Maryland? I think you mean the WVU hype will stop when they lose to UL

Because ESPN told them to. I think it's kind of funny that one of the two biggest college football games of the year (national championship implication wise) is on a Thursday night..

** Rutgers was thouroughly unimpressive. WVU is going to wipe the floor with this team. If they let UConn run for 200+ I shudder at the thought of what WVU will do to them..

yeah, that performance will probably drop Rutgers to #13 or #14 in rushing defense from their current spot at #11...but it doesn't move the needle on overall defense rank

remind me again what good rushing defenses WVU has faced all year? actually, I'll save you the time

Marshall - 92nd
Maryland - 100th
ECU - 99th
Miss St - 46th
Syracuse - 113th
UConn - 110th

for an average rushing defense of....80!!! wow, really setting the bar high there - i mean one whole team that's not in the bottom 30 of 1-A rushing defense. Hell, Navy (#2 in rushing offense in the country) has faced better rushing defenses than WVU has (average opponent is 65) and are only 9 yards per game behind WVU. Why is that? Because Navy came into the Rutgers game averaging about 340 per game on the ground and only got 110.

And WVU's pass offense is 110th, so they better hope you're right and RU really is soft on the run and the statistics lie.
