What do you guys think of this? I saw the ad yesterday on t.v and really diddn't know what to think. An obvious pro from this technology would be aiding people who cannot parallel by themselves. But what could the cons possibly be? Is this a good idea?

it is also the first car with an 8-speed transmission.

and the second car to have reclining back seats with footrests (the first is the maybach). only the lwb version comes with this feature.

it wouldn't be too convenient if you were on a busy street in a major city...you have to tweak the area you want to park it in before it goes, so it takes a good minute for someone not adept to programming it in the controls. i think it'd be cool if one was used to it and fast with it.

I think its a horrible idea/technology. All its going to do is make people horrible parallel parkers. And if you're not capable of parallel parking you shouldn't be driving at all.

people are already horrible parkers, let alone parallel parking. so this is a good idea because there is just no way they will learn. ahmet and i tried telling this black chick on glenwood how to parellel park and she was like 'omg i can so do this drunk but not sober'

Didn't want to make a new thread.

Looks cool in chrome:

Lexus Australia builds chrome IS 250

Quote :
"The chrome IS250 is the brainchild of the Lexus After Sales Division. In addition to the paintwork, the IS250 has been fitted with a new Lexus body kit - consisting of front lower spoiler, side skirts, rear lower skirt and a boot spoiler - which Lexus plans to introduce as a genuine Lexus Accessory late in 2006. It also features custom black aluminum wheels. "

good luck getting that shit to work here in NYC. You'd have 20 people cursing at you in no time, not to mention someone would just sneak in and steal the spot from you, haha.

"A new Lexus 'F' - as in 'faaast'

By MARK RECHTIN | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS

AutoWeek | Published 12/04/06, 8:01 am et

LOS ANGELES - Lexus will launch a performance brand in late 2007 to compete with Mercedes' AMG and BMW's M divisions.

Lexus will start with an IS sedan equipped with a 425-hp, 5.0-liter V-8. The engine is a retuned version of the LS 600h L hybrid's engine, dealer sources said.

The sedan will be called the IS-F. It will debut at the Detroit auto show in January.

Lexus likely will carry that nomenclature into other high-performance Lexus vehicles, a dealer said. He said a GS-F sedan and IS-F coupe likely will follow.

The IS-F - "F" as in "fast" - will go on sale in December 2007 and sticker in the low $50,000 range, sources said. Lexus told dealers of the plans at a recent national meeting.

Toyota Motor Co. filed for a trademark for "IS-F" on Nov. 8 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It also filed for a trademark for a stylized "F" logo on Oct. 9.

A dealer source said Yamaha is tuning the IS-F engine's heads for more power. Brembo will be the brake supplier.

Lexus declined to comment. "

GG Lexus.

You've never made a competent sports car in your life, just add more power.

One of the reasons I absolutely loathe toyota.

^^^ Yes, they are supposedly planning a sedan as well as a coupe.

^ Ummm, Supra? That's was one of the best sports cars ever. OK, that was a long time ago, and since then Yota hasn't made a single [decent] sports car, whereas Honda, Nissan, and Mazda have definitely become several fold sportier. And Mitsu too. And Subaru. Yota ranks with Zuki in terms of sportiness.

BUT THAT'S ALL ABOUT TO CHANGE.

The Lexus supercar (concept LF-A) is about to come out, and it will be a killer. And a Supra is in the works too.

that self park thing is pretty cool, but pretty worthless too. If it breaks, someones car is getting fucked up, not to mention I would get tired of it after a while and do it myself anyway because I hate being useless when driving, much like driving an automatic. My grandpa checked one out at the dealership the other week, it was already on the used lot, but was still 79.5k

Countdown... one month to go!

Toyota previews 2008 Lexus IS-F; Another concept on the way

Quote :
"Toyota will stage the world premiere of the 2008 Lexus IS-F at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this January. The IS-F is a high-performance version of the popular Lexus IS 250/350 sport sedan.

Toyota acknowledges the car will feature "unique styling and a substantial boost in power from a V8 powerplant," but the company didn't provide specifics.

Toyota also said it will unveil a Lexus "exotic sports concept" at the show. It's unclear if the vehicle is related to the LF-A/H supercar project, an IS coupe, or something else entirely. "

2008 Lexus IS-F

I think it is beautiful. Can go head to head with the new M3 in the other thread, and even with the RS4 and the CLK 55 AMG. The thing to wait for is for car mags to get a hold of it as soon as it goes on sale in < 1 year and do a comparo of those four cars.

5 litre V8
> 400 hp
> 350 lb-ft
~ $50,000
0-60 in < 4.9 sec (if the IS 350 can manage 5.1, this can surely do 4.5)
8-speed direct sport-shift (manual plz)

BTW, gorgeous graphite colored wheels!!!

i watched a demonstration on oprah , and it wasn't what i expected. i guess it may technically park itself, but that's a stretch. you have to engage and disengaged gears. you have to program the location of the other cars. you have to line up indication lines on your dashboard screen. it takes about 3 minutes to prepare the car to reverse. once it backs into the slot, you still have to put it in drive again, and finish the job.

you're better off learning how to parallel park yourself.
