So i'm not really sure what the hell is wrong with my car. I drive a jeep grand cherokee. All of my electrical stuff seems to be shot. The lights on the dash as well as my interior lights and headlights are flashing. My headlights go from dim to bright. On the dash my BRAKE and ABS lights are on. My speakers are making some weird, crackling noise. Today when i tried to crank up....it wouldn't even turn over, but I finally got it started. Any insight would be very much appreciated..... 10/23/2006 3:04:59 PM |

I'd venture a guess and say its somewhere really close to your fusebox. Possibly water or some other liquid shorting a bunch of lines together, including your ignition? Maybe? 10/23/2006 3:53:53 PM |

I had to get it fixed a week and a half ago because some drain was clogged and it was causing water from the air conditioner to drain into the floorboard of the passenger side......maybe i need a new car 10/23/2006 3:56:52 PM |

Or maybe you just found your problem... try to find what wires that leak may have dripped on or fuse boxes it may have puddled in.

Yea thats a bit of a tough problem. Mainly though, you want to be aware of any burning smells while you're driving it and get it taken care of ASAP. 10/23/2006 4:03:01 PM |

^ yeah but they are the signal side wires... i don't think there would be one that operates any significant load under there... all just tripping solenoids.

drivers side whee the dash meets the a-post, rubs through the harness every time, seen a few burn because of it, i'd disconect the battery and dont drive it until you get it fixed, and it takes a long damn time to fix too, thats a lot of melted wires to splice 10/24/2006 1:28:40 AM |

I had a car that would sometimes shut off when raining and couldn't be started until after it dried out for hours. Ended up being a set of wires passing through the firewall. One of the wires had a small crack in it, the set of wires had a rubber cover inside the engine compartment to protect the penetration and was taped with electrical tape. Water collected in the area and seeped through the tape and shorted the one damn wire.
Moral of the story, eletrical is a pain in the ass to find, esp. when it's an intermittant problem.
Has the radio ever been replaced or stolen? A friend had a short after somebody yanked his shit. 10/24/2006 6:04:50 AM |
