Nugs probably won't pick up his option for the 2007-2008 season.

from rockymountainnews.com:

Quote :
"HODGE WAITS: The exhibition season will be a wash for Nuggets guard Julius Hodge.

Hodge, still recovering from gunshot wounds, has not played a game or been through a full practice with the team since April and will not travel to California.

"I think he'll practice next week," Karl said. "That's what I got from the doctor's report (Tuesday)."

Hodge was shot four times in the legs and hip while driving on Interstate 76 north of Denver on April 8. A foot infection prevented him from returning during training camp.

"Just have to wait until I'm feeling 100 percent," he said. "Right now, I'm feeling pretty good. I feel like I can play, but I'm continuing to feel better every day, so it doesn't hurt to take my time."

The extended absence, however, does hurt Hodge's chances for a contract extension. The Nuggets are not expected to pick up his $1.32 million option for 2007-08 by the Oct. 31 deadline.

Kleiza and Smith also have team options for next season. Their contracts likely will be extended, though an official decision probably won't be made until just before the deadline.
"

Where's his career headed now? Is he gonna fully recover and make his career in Europe or bust his ass, hire a trainer and transform his game?

Hodge is struggling.

I think the only roster in the league he could make would be the Bobcats.

The end of our bench is horrible, winning isn't our main concern right now (we're not gearing up for a playoff run anytime soon), and he might bring some more local media attention to the team.

Other than that he's looking at the CBA or overseas. The main Euroleagues would expose him. You can't play over there without a jumpshot. He doesn't really have the talent for the NBA right now.

the nuggets management are a bunch of idiots. Their roster currently has 7 people that play guard, and that's after they released a guy last week. Picking Hodge was just a waste of a pick and his skill, especially after the coaching staff said they don't like to play rookies. I hope Hodge can get picked up by another team next season and can be productive.

he wouldnt be a waste of money because we could sign him for the league minumum.

We're under the salary cap FLOOR right now anyway so basically we are just wasting money anyway.

we need a shooter and he cant shoot, but we also just need somebody to score. we only have a handful of people that know how to do that. i'd like to see if any of hodge's intangibles that allowed him to score so many points without a solid jumpshot could carry over to the nba level. i mean it wouldnt take much for him to be a 3rd option off the bench. its worth a shot, especially when you have kevin burleson as your 3rd option right now.

^in a way, I do too.

His jump-shot was never consistent through his career. Herb should have helped him re-invent or at least work on it at some point over 4 years. (see Ray Felton from his soph. to junior years)

we all know hodge got shot because he was in the nba...all "good college kids" magically turn into "nothing but thugs" once they go to the nba

fuck hodge anyway...who cares about the most exciting bball player for state in recent history...he's in the nba now...all he cares about is money and being a thug

let's all face the facts.

As much of a good player and good kid Hodge was whilst at NC State, he was a kid from New York who always fashioned himself as a thug.

It has nothing to do with the NBA (or its image). He was probably acting like a thug at the club he was at beforehand and ended up getting shot for it.

yeah he was probably "acting like a thug" which in turn means he probably deserved to be shot

let alone the fact that he lived in HARLEM for 18 years and never got shot

lets assume some more

No one said he deserved to get shot. But acting like an idiot in front of, or towards, the wrong people, can get you shot.

No one drives up beside a moving car and shoots into it randomly. Well maybe they do, but that sure as shit isn't what happened in this case.

^how do you know what happened?

my initial thoughts after i heard the first stories were that he was shot in some beef that he had nothing to do with...he is from Harlem...rapper Juelz Santana and some of his people were in the club, also from Harlem...who knows if they didnt start shit and somebody came at Hodge afterwards?

I would still like to see him in a Bobcats uniform

have you ever thought that it might have been a case of mistaken identity? the only people that know shit are the people that were in hodge's car and the one in the shooters car.

^^^supposedly he went to the club specifically to see Juelz Santana. They're tight or something. No beef there.

I don't know anything more than what I've read about the situation, but most signs point to some sort of thuggish activity resulting in one car shooting into the moving car that Julius was in.

^oh and I love Hodge and all, but his game is not what the Bobcats need. Even at the end of the bench.

as far as the beef, i didnt mean beef with Juelz...i meant maybe somebody ELSE had beef with juelz, thought hodge was bangin with juelz, and came after hodge

as far as what the bobcats need, they probably dont need him, but you never know

he hasnt really gotten his opportunity to shine in the nba yet...he didnt get much PT in denver behind carmelo and them

not that he can be the nba equivalent of rivers necessarily, but rivers caught a lot of flak after a couple years in the league when he hadnt done anything...plus hodge was only a rookie last year...dont give up on him yet

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2401667

Quote :
" Ramirez said Hodge and Santana both arrived at the club around 11 p.m. and that Hodge spent most of his time with Santana, even getting on stage.

"I've checked with every one of my security guys and no one saw him arguing with anyone," Ramirez said. He said Hodge left around 1:45 a.m."

Thuggish behavior my ass. All he was doing was going to the club and having a good time. That deserves being shot?

^actually i was thinking that maybe someone thought his car was someone elses. apparently hodge drives a black or navy blue 7-series which is a favorite of many high rolling drug dealers.

I agree that he needs to be given a chance, as in significant minutes for at least part of a season.

The fact remains that his jump-shot is sub-par and he's been out of the game for a good while now. If he is gonna make it in the NBA, its gonna take some real hard work.

yeah if he had a better shot it would be a lot easier

but apparently at State he was quite the gym rat and was really down to put in work to make his game better

so hopefully that will continue
