Is there any custom made (frankenstein) firmwares for the version 6.0. hyper wrt (thibor) & rice don't support it, but I hear people talking about custom jobs here and there for it. Anyone know of any?

without any googling (and therefore without any basis), i will say probably not, as the v4 and older firmware was linux-based (or something along those lines) and therefore easily modified...the v5+ firmware is some proprietary thing (i think) and it's pretty much stuck as it is

i recently switched to DD-WRT from SveaSoft, and I'm very happy with it. It does everything and then some, and it's free

Man, fuck this, I'm just going to buy a new type of router.

Anyone have any suggestions, I probably still want a linksys.

ummm...unless you want the speedbooster or mimo or something, i don't think linksys makes any other type of wireless router than the wrt54g

Mimo?

No, no, they do make a bunch of different types, one that even looks like it has a tv antenna growing from it's head

DD-WRT support v6 linksys. you can only use the mini or micro (get them mixed up) IIRC. Either way, I am running DD-WRT on my v6 so I know it works. Just gotta get the right version.

oh yea, one other thing. v23sp2 sucks on this router. The wireless intermittently goes in and out. I downgraded to v23sp1 and wireless is better, but the feature set (and the interface to them) is paired down a little. But it works better. I just needed QOS for vonage and port forwarding for my web server so no biggie to me, but if you plan to use all the bells and whistles (ssh access, advanced routing, and a few other things that seemed missing or different to configure) you may want to do more research before going v23sp1

that'll be $0.02 for my $0.02

Which dd - wrt version did you guys use?

There's 23 (mini, micro & standard) + sp1 & sp2?

ive got dd-wrt on my v6 firmware, runs fine

read the readme's, you'll figure it out, v6 has to use the smallest ver.

I think it was the micro, and the latest version of micro works fine.

well, i figured i'd try this out myself and sure enough, worked like a gem on my v5

this guide is especially useful, because i like pictures to ensure i'm not making a brick:

i used v.23 sp2 micro and it's running well
