I find this to be extremely interesting. I might go ahead and try it!
Any thoughts?

you can't ask if he's "a drinker" you have to ask if he's an alcoholic. drinking alcohol casually is akin to eating casually. There's nothing wrong with either scenario.

Typical cost of a drug (at least in the US market) is $800 million or more (http://www.forbes.com/insights/2004/05/28/cz_kd_0528outsourcing.html). Not saying they can't do it for cheaper, but wondering WHAT are they are doing for their research on this thing.

People worldwide? People within the US? What are "products"? What proportion of those products are food or drugs? Is $40 billion a high number?
The article lost me from it's first sentence. I'll believe it when it hits the market.10/29/2006 3:31:24 PM |

I believe what they meant by "products" that promised fat loss came in the form of thermogenics (AKA fat burners).
I remember back in 2001 Cytodyne came out with Xenadrine RFA -- a drug utilizing epherda. Sales went up the roof worldwide but in less than 2-3 years later, all ephedra products were banned due to high reports of deaths caused by this substance.
I believe $40 billion only in North America itself. So, you'd think every single phamaceutical company would want a piece of the pie.
From what it looks like, they are hoping this new "miracle" plant Hoodia will acheive the success ephedra had without the negative side effects -- at least thats how they are marketing it.
I am going to place an order tomorrow and let you guys know on my progress. 10/30/2006 3:08:30 AM |

i tried smoking when i went to college. i rather enjoyed it and started doing it frequently for a couple months when i was really stressed. then i decided it was bad for me and stopped. ive had a cigarette sicne them, but they are generally no less than 6 months apart. i have 0 desire to do it, unless im drinking and bored.
i also drink, however, not often. ive only been "trashed" once or twice in the last year.
i also weigh 133lbs at 5'11 (hell i accidentally lost 15lbs when i went to college by eating healthier).
soooooo....sux to be a fat, smoking, drinker.

Diet pills are crazy. I tried one last year called "Lipo 6". I took the pills like the guy at GNC told me to for two days and lost 5lbs, but the entire time I was on it I was in a cold sweat and the thought of food made me sick to my stomach. I also could not sit still, I remember being in bio 181 and not being able to sit still for even 50 minutes. No matter how early in the morning I took them I could not sleep at night either. So...they may have worked, but I couldn't handle the way they made me feel. Waste of $40 unless you like feeling like a crackhead.
Maybe the hoodia stuff works though, I mean the article says it isn't a stimulant!

^I tried Lipo 6 and lost 10lbs but it made me sick.
I always felt like my brain was going to explode. A lot of pressure and couldn't sleep at night so I was like screw it. I ended up dumping the rest of it in the trash. 10/31/2006 5:38:56 AM |
