I live in Cary with 2 other roomates. Our water bill has been over $100 (including sewer and trash pickup) for the past 2 months. It says we have used 10,000 gallons of water this month. Is this average, the amount of gallons? My roomate thinks we don't use that much water, I think we do. I have no idea how much water a typical house uses a month though. We don't have a washing machine, use the dish washer 2 times a week at the most, and I would say between the 3 of us we take 3-6 showers a day. So is this along the lines of everyone else? 11/1/2006 7:54:05 PM |

My water, trash, and sewar bill was never more than $15 when I lived in Cary. I'd run the dishwasher 2 times a week and take 2 showers a day myself as well as fill up a water bottle 5-7 times a day (that is pretty negligible though).
$100+ isn't right... unless you take 50 min showers every morning. 11/1/2006 7:57:24 PM |

I live in Cary as well and my last bill was $29. I used about 1,400 gallons. I live by myself and rarely use the dishwasher. I do however water the lawn occasionally. Hope this helps. 11/1/2006 7:58:30 PM |

tell your roomates to quit jacking in the shower.

The only way mine is ever over $60 is if I forget to pay the last one.
I have two roomates, take really long showers, wash my clothes over and over again cuz i forget to put them in the dryer, and change the water in my hot tub about 2-3 times a month.
I dont live in Cary though. 11/1/2006 8:33:28 PM |

Go outside and look at your meter, if it whats busted they will re-imburse you for the difference over your usual usage. It happened to my parents and water was leakign in to the ground at the meter for 3 months. 11/1/2006 8:43:55 PM |

I don't see how you possibly could have used 10,000 gallons, especially without a washer. Unless you haven't paid it in like a year. 11/1/2006 9:52:18 PM |

yeah sounds like a leak
We lived in Cary a few years ago and our bill was always $50 or less, and that's with 3 people (us plus roommate) and we DID have a washer, although no dishwasher. 11/1/2006 9:57:17 PM |

Yeah, we've been thinking it might be a leak. We had someone from the property management place come and check it out but he didn't find anything. We've paid all our bills on time so it can't be that. Thanks for all the info, we definately need to call the water people and get it straight. 11/1/2006 10:39:24 PM |

Cary water bills are just high. Even if you shut the water to your house off right were it comes into your house you'd still end up with a bill of about $17 because there is a base charge for water, sewer, and trash pickup.
They have also raised the rates over the past few years. The service that cost $30 just 4 years ago now costs $45-50 for the same amount of water usage. 11/2/2006 7:15:24 AM |

I live in Cary (I think our water company is based out of Florida though, so it might throw this off). I take a 10 min shower everyday and my wife takes about 20-25 min shower everyday. I have two small children who take baths 3-4 times a week. We wash probably 4-6 loads of clothes a week plus all the other stuff like washing dishes. MY water bill has never been over $20. Its almost always abour $16-$17, but its been as low as $14 before. 11/2/2006 4:46:04 PM |

^^I'm currently looking at a Cary water bill.
WATER BASE CHARGE $2.76 SEWER BASE CHARGE $2.76 ... SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL $11.75
The total for all non water consumption items is $17.27. This does not include the $3.28/1000g water and $4.41/1000g sewer charges. I don't know how you can have a bill lower than the total of the flat fees that they charge. Are you using a well? 11/3/2006 7:16:10 AM |

Not sure how the bill is broken down. I'll have to look at it when I get home. I do know that I do not have a fee for $11.75 on there. There are a couple of fees but I think they are both about $4-$5. When I pay my rent, I have to include the water in my check. My rent is $659 and I always just make the check for $675. A couple of months ago they said I have a credit of $5 and some change due to me always writing the check over what I actually owe by a little.
Ok, checked the mail and got the water bill. Its higher than normal since my mother-in-law came to visit for 6 weeks Admin Fee = $5.12 Water Service = $7.50 Sewer Service = $8.82 Total = $21.44 for 3 adults and 2 kids Our usage this past month was 2000 gallons
So if we don't use any water/sewer our bill would be for $5.12 + if they charge any other small fees that is included in the 7.50 and 8.82

I used to live in Cary and our water bill was always high. Their rates per 1000 gal are higher than a lot of other areas. Are you in a house? We were required to turn on the sprinklers to maintain the lawn, and one of them had a busted sprinkler head. 11/6/2006 12:59:18 PM |
