I bought this movie knowing zero about it besides reading the cover and seeing De Niro plays Al Capone so I figured it had to be good... It was also on the top 25 crime movies list, I would rank it in my top 5-10...

Directed by Brian De Palma

Cast includes:
Robert De Niro as Al Capone
Kevin Costner
Sean Connery
and Andy Garcia

Quote :
"Young Treasury Agent Elliot Ness arrives in Chicago and is deternimed to take down Al Capone but he learns that it's not going to be easy, because Capone has the police in his pocket. But Ness meets Jimmy Malone a veteran patrolman and probably the most honorable one in the force. He asks Malone to help him get Capone but Malone warns him that if he goes after Capone, he is going to war. They recruit academy cadet, George Stone and Treasury agent Oscar Wallace, who is also an accountant, who wants to prosecute Capone for tax evasion. When they make headway, Capone tries to get them but they are untouchable."

Quote :
"A perfect rendition of events is created in the film, thanks to excellent costumes and art direction, and a very well researched screenplay. Superb music by Ennio Morricone and excellent cinematography provide the film with an exciting epic swoop without ruining its historical credibility. Sean Connery, in a role he won an Oscar for, Kevin Costner, and Robert De Niro, in a brilliant realisation of Al Capone, are all in top form. If being nit-picky one might fault the film in over-glorifying Eliot Ness, but that hardly subtracts from this exciting, excellently filmed experience, which has both style and substance."

I thought the movie was great, and much different than The Godfather or Goodfellas

I was on the edge of my seat for most of the movie, suspense was a big part of the direction

Braveheart and Gladiator arent exactly Crime movies

Costner wasnt as bad in this movie as he is in others

the movie felt odd at times, nothing like a mob movie at all

Rent Buy Miller's Crossing next. I think it might be in my top 5 mob/mafia movies. Actually, even though it's new...The Departed is probably in there now too.

You should probably se "A Bronx Tale" also. Not nearly as good as some of those movies...but still probably a "must see" crime movie.

^John Torturo is probably the most notable actor. Gabrial Byrne is the main character. Not a lot of big names...but a good cast that fits well together. Now that I've been talking about it, I think I'll have to pop it in the DVD player in the next few days.

I would personally like to see your top list of movies you haven't seen.

And maybe you should try watching something outside the crime genre.

I'm not criticizing the genre- I like crime movies. But it wouldn't kill you to see if you like something else.

I suggested something and you flew off the handle! Way to go!
