Quote :
"Evangelical leader says he bought meth

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rev. Ted Haggard said Friday he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a male prostitute. But the influential Christian evangelist insisted he threw the drugs away and never had sex with the man.

Haggard, who as president of the National Association of Evangelicals wielded influence on Capitol Hill and condemned both gay marriage and homosexuality, resigned on Thursday after a Denver man named Mike Jones [[[WHO?!?]]] claimed that he had many drug-fueled trysts with Haggard.

On Friday, Haggard said that he received a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel, and that he bought meth for himself from the man.

But Haggard said he never had sex with Jones. And as for the drugs, "I was tempted, but I never used it," the 50-year-old Haggard told reporters from his vehicle while leaving his home with his wife and three of his five children."

I hear it's not gay if you don't turn the lights on.

But seriously, why even bother with this charade? I bought meth, but I didn't use it! I got a massage from a male prostitute, but that's all!! I didn't inhale!!!

Yes, he surely is a hypocrite and I'm glad he was exposed as such.
Don't make the mistake that I give 2 shits about who this guy fucks, but I don't like his stance on homosexuality and gay marriage given that he's got a male hooker. That's messed up.

The Catholic Church itself has instituted policies that worsened the already dangerous problem of priests molesting children. He didn't say "Catholics". He said "the Catholic Church", a body which has institutionalized practices that support these sorts of things.

Exactly. Maybe I should have said "The Diocese of Boston" instead, as they allowed such things to go on for years. I actually know a guy who started out in the priesthood up there and left because he was so digusted with the hypocricy of so many of his bretheren. it was right around the time that some of those guys that got busted came in.

So did your friend not come forward with information about sexual abuse?

Or are you referring to something else?

Well, at the time (mid-1960s) he had no idea how widespread it (sexual abuse, this specific guy he knew had a special place to watch the showers at the boy's school, apparently) was and that people were covering it up. He just told a superior, who more than likely ignored it, and then got out. My friend I'm referring to is actually a professor here at State that I traveled to Ireland with for a study abroad trip, but I'm not gonna name drop for his own sake

It's Patrick McGay, isn't it?

lol, just kidding

Anyhow, I wasn't accusing him, I was just wondering because you can't exactly say "they did nothing about it" when you just told your supervisor and gave up. When you know something like that, you should go to the police.

I shit you not, this story has honestly made my day. Everytime I think about it, I feel happy. I can't stop reading stories about it and Ted's past. Harper's has a really good [words] article written in 2005 about Ted Haggard

Apparently he used to stand outside gay bars and solicit for christ ahaha

Gross.

Having said that -- can't we have an election without hearing about who's gay and who's not for the month prior? I think it's an important issue, but it shouldnt decide the overall national direction. Enough of this "wedge issue" nonsense; let's all just move on and talk about something else.

^^ I would agree for anyone except those people who deliberately attempt to drag the gov. into individuals' sexuality (ted haggard being one of the most prominent)

for those people, I say, "welcome to the hell you created for millions of innocent gay and lesbian citizens"

In all fairness, Haggard could be described as a moderate on the gay issue.

He opposed gay marriage because he felt it would undermine an important cultural institution. An overwhelming number of Americans are against gay marriage for basically the same reason--including both Bill and Hillary Clinton.

He had no qualms with states allowing for civil unions among gay couples. He invited gays to his church.

I don't think this guy is so horrible. There are certainly more shrill opponents to the acceptance of gays.

^^yeah he's REALLY moderate. I mean, look at this quote:

Quote :
""I don't understand it. It would be like having Murderer's Pride Day." - Ted Tina Haggard, commenting on gay pride parades in 1996. (via Salon.com)"

I bought the meth but threw it away...
