For my budget and my limited space (40 inches wide), I've decided that I will buy one of these TVs. I would like YOU, the TWW peanut gallery, to convince me otherwise (because TWW is only ever good for flaming, not helping). Tell me why I should NOT buy these TVs and give me something else to purchase instead (within the same budget and space). Or just tell me which one to buy...

Get that one. It is 1080p, and generally will look better than that Samsung (less blockiness in the image, better non-HD image).

Make sure with either one to get the right cables for HD/progressive quality picture.

Yeah man if you're going to get an LCD get a 1080p or 1080i one since resolution and clarity on the higher quality HD is really the only thing LCD has going for it that's worth touting. That being said, a 1080p HDTV is not automatically going to look better for most signals since pretty much everything will have to be upscaled.

Of the two you listed, I'd chose the DLP over the LCD. The sony LCD linked to above is very nice though, but not really in the price range you've implied yourself. If you really want an LCD in that pricerange though, I'd reccomend something from olevia. Spec for spec they tend to be the best deal and everyone I know who's bought one has been very happy with them.

having more pixels has very little to do with "blockiness" in an image. Perhaps aliasing in straight lines, but that isnt "blockiness" like youre seeing when watching any sport broadcast by time warner in HD.

i could be wrong about this, but i think when hdtvs talk about being 1080i capable and are not native 1080i resolution, it means that it can accept a 1080i signal and scale it to whatever its actual resolution is.

I ended up getting the samsung LCD...the one I bought was 1080i and i love the thing! Have had no problems with it and the picture is great.

I might have to go with the LCD afterall.. I want the DLP for price reasons and I think its a great picture, but the TV will be going in a stand that is above the fireplace (there is no other place to put it) and if a DLP is put at a bad angle, I've heard that the picture gets real dark (similar to old big screens)..

^^ BB wouldn't pricematch amazon for me. They offered me a "deal" where i would get the tv for the amazon price but also had to buy the in-home installation and a cable upgrade and something else i think, which added up to match their original price. i ordered it from amazon, installed it myself and saved 300 bucks

^^That's one of the main reasons I got the LCD..i mounted mine above the fireplace and set it back so it is flush with the wall....at an angle you get no reflection at all...looks perfect no matter where you sit.

I said get the DLP earlier, but if you are going to mount it high, go with the LCD. That's the only thing about my DLP that I don't like. Can't lay in the floor and watch it.

and as always... I gotta say 1080p 37" LCD looks SWEEEEEEEEET from the 2 feet I'm sitting away from it using it as my computer monitor... it looks phenominal on xbox360... it looks pretty good from 5' away on comcast cable HD... and it looks tollerable on non-HD stuff from 9' back...

but I mean non-stretched a 37" lcd would be a 34" traditional TV and those look like ass up close...

that hdtv is only 1360 x 768
