We are staying in Macon, NC. We are looking for a breakfast type place like a sit down country diner near Warrenton, Littleton, Macon, or Norlina. Any Suggestions?
Is there any shopping places in Roanoke Rapids where we can go to?
We are going this weekend. It's a little cold to be going out on the water. May do some fishing off the pier where our house is.

Not a whole lot to do up here in the RR, really. Only places to go eat breakfast sitting down are Cracker Barrel, a local coffee house on Roanoke Avenue, Waffle House, and a Starbucks.
There is a couple of nice places to sit down and eat. Mordecai's is in Littleton and is a very classy establishment. Not cheap. Also is David's Restaurant on Roanoke Avenue in RR.
Shopping, there is a dead mall with JCPenney's and Premier Landing, which is at the intersection of I-95 and 158. Its got a Wal-Mart, Belks, and a bunch of common stores like a Gamestop, cellphones, shoes, etc.
The big development is Carolina Crossroads, and will not be open until next year. That has a big aquarium with a dolphin show that will be open, a waterpark, an indoor theater Grand Ol' Opry style, and outdoor ampitheatre the size of Walnut Creek, and a bunch of outlet shopping. They also just bought the Zippin Pippin (2nd oldest wooden coaster in the country and Elvis Presley's favorite coaster) and are planning on buying and moving a lot of the rides from the Pavilion in Myrtle Beach up here as an amusement park. But all that is another year or so from completion.

For breakfast I like to hit up Eaton Ferry Marina or Washburn's Marina. Both are on Eaton Ferry Rd/River Rd. Eaton Ferry is right by Eaton Ferry Bridge and Washburn's is about 12 miles down the road at Pea Hill Creek. Eaton Ferry has a nice deck area where you can eat, but that's probably no good now that it is cold. They also have some huge carp and catfish down at the docks that you should check out.
Kenan House in Gasburg VA has an awesome country buffet for dinner. It's right by the north east quadrant of the lake about 20-25 miles from Macon. It's usually about $9 unless you go on a Friday night when they do Seafood buffet for about $18. The service can be sub par depending on the waitress, but the food is good and it is a buffet.
Pinos in Gasburg is decent if you want a pitcher of beer and some cheap greasy pizza. There's also a little take-out Pizza place named "Anthonys" that is in between Eaton Ferry Marina and Washburn's, but I've never had food from there.
Mordecai's is a little closer to Macon. It's near Littleton. It's a slightly upscale restaurant.
Avoid The Lakehouse on River Rd/Eaton Ferry Rd. I don't want to say too many bad things about it, but I've never been impressed by it.
Ralph's Barbecue is a pretty good buffet style place if you go into Roanoke Rapids. It's just past I-95...Probably 30-35 miles from where you are. It may technically be in Weldon, but I'm not sure.
Can't think of too much more. They opened a restaurant this summer at Dockside by Eaton Ferry, but I've never been there. Friends said the service was bad, but they had just opened then.
PM me if you need more specific directions to any of the places and I'll try to help.

Damn forgot about Kenan House Skack.
Ralphs get a definite local thumbs up here too. It is technically in Weldon, but its about a quarter mile past I-95 on the left on 158.
You can hit me up too about more intown stuff. I work in town. Unfortunately I don't get to the southside of the lake much anymore, so I have forgotten some of the spots like Kenan House. 11/6/2006 11:19:42 PM |

^ Isn't there a little seafood shack between Littleton and RR that is supposed to be pretty good? 11/6/2006 11:41:56 PM |

definitely check out ralph's if you get a chance.
it's the closest thing to real bbq that i've ever had that wasn't home cooked.
also, i believe there's a seafood restaurant right off of 158 in littleton. it used to be good, but i haven't been there in years. google says it's called "robert's seafood."
and everytime i go through rr, a new steakhouse has sprung up. 11/6/2006 11:46:25 PM |

Roberts is open at really strange times, but it is a pretty good seafood place. 11/7/2006 9:08:38 AM |

thanks for the suggestions. We had picked out Casa Mia's pizza in Littleton for Friday night and Logan's Roadhouse for Sat. night. Now that we have more suggestions, we could change it. 11/7/2006 10:17:49 AM |

Ro-Rap represent!!!
As far as eating there for breakfast, probably your best bet is Cracker Barrel. Ralph's Barbecue or Carolina Restaurant are your best places for lunch or dinner, esp. barbecue.
As far as shopping, Becker Village Mall is gone, but there is a strip of stores near the Super Wal-Mart near I-95.
That's all I got. 11/7/2006 10:49:10 AM |

I once heard someone say "Gawd man, have you been to that new Super Wal-Mart?" "It's like you walk through the door and you're not even in Roanoke Rapids anymore."
I lol'd.
I went to Becker Village Mall last summer because I wanted to buy a book at the bookstore. Turns out that the bookstore is gone. As well as the K-Mart, the sporting goods store, Giovannis, the arcade, and pretty much everything else. I went in the entrance by K-Mart and that whole wing of the mall was empty except some karate school that opened up in one of the old stores. Place was a ghost town.

If you want a very good diner-style breakfast, go to Oscar's on Tenth Street in Roanoke Rapids. For shopping in Roanoke Rapids, don't forget Becker Drive, which is just off Old Farm Road. There are a couple of little Williamsburg-type shops--and a Heavenly Ham for box lunches. Delicious! 11/7/2006 11:43:16 AM |

^^ PS: The guy who ran Giovanni's died of a sudden heart attack. My future brother-in-law is good friends with the late owner's son; it was very sad. 11/7/2006 11:46:53 AM |

I'll second Mordecai's if you are on the Littleton side of the lake 11/7/2006 12:00:25 PM |

^ Concur. Mordecai's if you're near Littleton. I also recommend Middleburg Steakhouse for supper (Exit 220 off I-85 on Hwy 158 in Middleburg).

I've chilled with Carlos a little. He was younger than me, but we had some mutual good friends. I met his dad (Rob?) a few times and it really was sad when he passed away.
We took Carlos to see Slayer when he was 17 I think. He had never seen anything like that. lol.

I was about to suggest Middleburg Steak House. If you're staying in Macon, that is about THE closest place to eat. And it's good. Our lake house is just past Macon.
Warrenton has a cute little sandwich shop, but I forget the name. Hardware Cafe perhaps?
I don't know about anything else in the area. I only to go LKG to sleep and relax. 11/7/2006 4:44:31 PM |

do u know the price range for Middleburg Steakhouse? This isn't a romantic getaway or anything. Its a sisterhood retreat, and we are broke college students. We can afford like 15 dollar meals, but that's about it. hehe 11/7/2006 11:02:40 PM |

it was nice. we ate at Casa Mia's in Littleton Fri night, Oscar's in RR on Sat morn, and Middleburg Steakhouse. All were great places to eat. We also went to the Ridgeway Opry House and heard bluegrass music. That was really good as well. 12/4/2006 12:48:39 AM |
