I think its always good to have firsts on the Hill, so long as they are the best candidate. I didn't follow this race, so I really couldn't comment on that, but celebrating the first this and the first that isn't important unless they're also well qualified. i agree. I hate it when the media makes a big deal out of having the first so n so become whatever and they end up tanking.
