heres what we have: a 1987 ford aerostar minivan with the 3.0L v6

sat for 2.5 years, i didnt change the fuel when i started it up again.

heres the problem:

upon acceleration, it bogs down and loses power the further down you push the accelerator.

it also backfires- but not out of the exhaust, kind of like the engine is burping.

slow to start- usually have to turn the key for about 6-9 seconds to start. before i parked it it would start on half a turnover.
when its not under load it runs fine

so far i have replaced the fuel filter, cat, plugs, wires, distributor, coil, air filter, and had the timing adjusted.

the transmission fluid level is good, and the fluid is red

tested the throttle positon sensor with a cheap ohm meter and it looks ok. didnt have a scope to check it out further.

any guesses?

the pump or lines may be gummed up..

did you change the filter before you ran fresh gas through it?
